But you're right about the US presidency and facial hair. We haven't seen a moustache since Taft, or a beard since Benjamin Harrison. I can't even remember the last time someone with facial hair ran for president (Nixon's 5 o'clock shadow doesn't count ). Dewey, maybe?

A while ago Uncle Saddam was talking to someone without a moustache. Saddam was ridiculing him about having no moustache, and the guy just said "At least I know who my father is". Saddy just pulled out a gun and shot him.In Iraq it's a deep cultural thing, some weird source of pride that they have. Men get made fun of if they don't have a moustache. lots of people in the U.S. military has moustaches.
In the navy we aren't allowed beards. They used to allow them, but gas masks do not fit properly with beards.
