    This is in no way any change AFAIK. I assumed that almost everyone would join the US in the war if Saddam used WoMD. This is not France being wimpy and now that they've failed switching sides, this is just common sense.

        Well Labour is considered a leftist party in Britain. But the thing is with the French system, the way the Fifth Republic is set up the President has a great deal of influence and power, especially when he has a parliament of his party in power. France's positions haven't really been a function of there being a conservative party in power, it has more to do with Chirac being there in power and wanting to be a new De Gaulle. The lengths France went to in order to oppose US policy would not nessecarily have been seen under another presidency.
