  • Your favorite movies of this millenium

    My favorites:

    Black Hawk Down
    My Big Fat Greek Wedding
    Signs
    8 Mile

Everyone should have seen these by now. They are all excellent.

Signs is the least acclaimed of my choices, but I think it was the best. It's not really what you'd expect from the previews. It's more about faith and stuff. It's easily Shyamalan's best film; the directing is superb, and the entire cast was excellent. (There are only 6 characters that appear in more than one scene, and two of them are children. But those 6 characters were cast well.)

Any that I should go see or rent?

I thought One Hour Photo was surprisingly good...

Hm, I've only seen four movies this mellenium. The two Lord of the Rings Movies, Bowling for columbine, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

They where all decent, i guess.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist... an instant classic.
Equilibrium is great also, easily the best sci-fi flick in years.

Jag, you really thought Signs was better than 6th Sense? I thought the movie was good, the suspense and atmosphere were definately the best I've seen in a long time, but I thought the story was kind of weak. After seeing it I thought, "You know, Shyamalan is an awesome director, but he shouldn't be allowed to write the scripts anymore."

In no particular order. The last millenium [didn't notice until too late]

            2001: A Space Odyssey

            - "Open the Pod Bay doors HAL!"

            Apocalypse Now

            - "I love the smell of napalm in the morning... It smells like...smells like... victory."

            Citizen Kane

            A Clockwork Orange

            - "A bit of the old in-out."

            Full Metal Jacket

            - "How tall are you Private Snowball?" "I didn't know they could stack s**t that high!"

            The Philadelphia Story
            The Shawshank Redemption
            Local Hero
Taxi Driver (especially the scene where De Niro takes his date to the porno movie - "lots of couples come here")

            and this millenium

            City of God
            The Fellowship of the Ring

Good, but hardly great. It wasn't a bit scary. But it was a good story, as far as it went.
