  • Do you post at Apolyton during work hours?

Shouldn't you be working right now? Big brother is there to watch you!

My employer keeps track of every site any employee have visited, and when. They can also read everything we post at forums. Extensive private surfing is not encouraged, and some sites are totally illegal (porn, nazi, mp3 etc). The company does not want the company name or IP number to be connected with political and/or offensive statements. They won't fire anyone, except in extreme cases, but we could be put off-line.

I do some posting during lunch breaks, but never anything controversial. (I save that until I get home)

How is the situation where you work?

Our IT manager is also the QC lab manager. I'm the only one willing to work third shift QC, so it's in his best interests to keep me happy working third shift QC.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I visit Apolyton while at school regularly. Sometimes I'm in the labs working on projects, othertimes I'm in class on a laptop...

        All right, I admit it!

Most sites are blocked by our IT department. I can't even access e-mail except through the company e-mail. Strangely, there is a guy in IT who is really into Civ and I have never had a problem hitting 'poly.

I actually got fired for it... I only did it once, and they fired me because using the computers for anything other than work is a violation of the rules...

Sounds like they did not want you in the first place and used this as an excuse to get rid of you.

I dunno - I did my job well except for posting on poly like, twice the whole time I worked there...

I'm glad to be rid of it though - it totally sucked.

I depends on whether or not I've got work to do. If I've got something better to do, then I'll do it. If I'm bored (or taking a break), then I'll surf the internet.

It's never gotten me in trouble. I've had three jobs where I had the ability to surf the internet, and all three were (are) strictly result-driven, so as long as I met my deadlines my bosses didn't care what I did (as long as I didn't do anything too illegal, I s'pose).

We allow people to surf the Web within a reasonable limit. It's just a different form of gathering around the coffee machine thing.
