My great-uncle saw the last of the Tall Ships sailing....

I think this infantry training is like that.

In another fifty years, a bunch of overweight programmers with the descendants of the Predator drone and the Marine urban combat robot will be more combat effective than a whole division of piss-drinking, eye-ball gouging, commando types.

It doesn't matter how tough you are when the enemies computers can detect, target, and fire on you in a fraction of a second.

        Seeker speaks true.

A missile with a robot brain cares not how tough a soldier is.

In the future, humans will still be soft and squishy,
but an AI controlled tank is touch as heck, man!

Never heard about active defense? Such as Explosive Reactive Armor or "Arena" active defense system which could be instaled to T-72 and make it invincible not only for infantry's anti-tank weapons, but also to tank's anti-tank shells and guided missiles?
Yes, your 30 year old tanks are invincible, with a simple armor upgrade, that, oh yes, you can't afford, is not as good as you say it is, and, of course, is virtually useless against air power.

For “Arena” it doesn’t matter to what to shot- incoming shell, guided missile or air-to-surface missile. It destroys any flying object which threats to tank few meters before impact. So I don’t se how it’s “virtually useless against air power.” Tanks equipped even not with ‘Arena’ but with ERA (btw, far less complicated active defense system which greatly reduce efficiency of enemy tank shells during impact stage) were able to perform their mission after 5-6 direct hits.
And it’s not a simple armor upgrade it’s technology of the future. The kind of technology you can see in ‘Star wars’ movies. Your backward country just making your first steps into direction of active defense system for tanks (and only because this technology was stolen from us), so please shut the f*ck up Floyd. This thread is about marines, not about superiority of Russian tanks.

Does 20mm cannon fire set this reactive armor off?

From what I've seen, reactive armor is made for shaped charges coming from a certain range of angles in a certain range of speeds, and can be less than worthless outside of those ranges.

                              More probably, but:
                              1) You have to approach to firing range of 20 mm cannon, which is much less than range of primary gun.
                              2) You have to be a pretty lucky gunner to shot down reactive armor of tank, which is traveling at 80 kmph
                              3) To destroy tank equipped with ERA first you have to take care about ERA (with primary gun or 20 mm gun, it doesn't matter) which gives time advantage to enemy.
                              4) All in all, ERA greatly increase armor of tank (tank’s life) and this is the way how future tanks will work, not the way of simple increase of armor thickness which only makes armors heavier.
And one more thing- "Arena" active defense system uses absolutely different principle than ERA, it destroys incoming shells before they actually hit the armor, so if you'll destroy some "Arena" ammo containers it's still will be effective, until it will be out of ammo.
