I LOVED Morrowind! I consider it the greatest game of all time.
Not so good story.
I imagined Morrowind with patched engine from Daggerfall and with lot of moding and it wasn't bad.
It would be really nice if Bethesda would not lie to us. Do you remmember talks like "It will be without bugs. No need for lots of patching, we work really hard on it."TES games were allways CPU and GFX hungry, but I would fire people that did "Morrowind Ultra somethin like - well slow - please don't hurt us - graphic engine".
If you'd like to walk and several broken things. (like falling throught walls, nonrandom quests or faction handling.) Imagine... You could go to Empire lands. You could get randomly generated quest that would change more than just your ranking in guild. You could build new house for your guild and decide on new members. And so on.
Anyone who defiles this thread with disparaging remarks about Adventure Games should be banned.

When was the last time you saw a movie half as entertaining as those games? Adult Swim Comedy is the closest thing to this with Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Sealab 2021.
As to sports games - I hate Sega's NFL2K*. I like Maddden and I love NCAA Football. I like Inside Drive although there are obviously flaws and I may enjoy it more because my brother and I pick franchises and go at it.
As to Console vs. PC and someone arguing futilely that consoles had no good FPSes - Metal Gear Solid (1&2), Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Halo. PCs have the edge in mass multiplayer but I'd rather play against 3-7 guys I know in one room than 21 I don't who prefer to call everyone "n00b" and espouse their "l33t"ness. Not to mention the absolute horrid quality of music on PCs compared to Consoles (Harry Greggson-Williams, Nobou Uematsu, those other RPG guys).

Compare today's proliferation and featuritis with the late 70s grognard war game stuff. They killed the whole industry with 50 page rule books and roomsized maps. Complexity is the bane of most games.
IIRC, SPI didn't die because of their games didn't sell, but of a cash flow problem.
I reckon the advent of microcomputers also helped hammered board wargames.

let me have my own ! i sort of consider morrowind as the antithesis for what is wrong with pc gaming. i admit many things were good about it, but it's kind of the poster child for what is wrong with games. morrowind is bloated(anyone try the russian auto adjusting viewing distance exe?), slow running(even ppl with good pcs got low fps), boring(you spent as much time walking as anything else!), and has little good gameplay(combat in mw sucked hard). morrowind is so complex that there are numerous "exploits" in the gameplay which mean skillful play makes the game no fun. once you figure out how to abuse the system a game is ruined. there are so many abuses in morrowind it's hard to argue they are actual abuses, instead of intented design(or if they weren't intended the design was messed up).
morrowind is a classic example of sequalitis also. mw is just an updated version of daggerfall with fancy new gfx, and a few different features. in many ways mw is worse than daggerfall. daggerfall was much more challenging in combat, lots of cool vampires/witch's coves/werewolves stuff, it had random questing, a bigger world, huge dungeons, guilds had meaningful perks, and a cooler storyline with personality(the underking anyone?).
mw could have been a much greater game if it had upped the ante over daggerfall instead of attemping to fix daggerfall's problems. mw did fix daggerfall's crashing problem but i must also point out the latest daggerfall patches are as stable as mw on my system. mw was easier to mod but again it was only a half hearted attempt as basically it's impossible to make mods which do something significant.
i was hoping someone would comment on my earlier comment since i thought it had a few insightful remarks. oh well...

I don't know, I liked the gameplay of MW. I loved just walking around the vast countryside, seeing how BIG the damned place was. It really sucked me in like no other game. The immersion factor was amazing. I could go anywhere, do anything, be anyone. I didn't have to do the main quest, it was ALL up to me!
No one has done a game like that successfully before. Bethesda has tried, but this is the first one they've done right. Sign me up for the next game in the series. I'm sure I'll love it as much as MW.
