Computer gaming is extraordinarily pathetic these days, Console gaming is great...

      Things are looking good!
      NHL2004 is crap, crap, crap.
      Get a real hockey game.

I mock all RPGers who have not played through at least two of the "Pools Of Radiance" games.

console games can have both depth and fun, just like pc games.

Please guys, build two bridges, get over your own, and then get across the other guys. Get over it TIMES TWO.

                You don't say.

I've got two consoles and a PC I play my games on, and I wouldn't have it any other way...

Yeah - seriously. Plus, every game is different. PCS have crap and good stuff, consoles have crap and good stuff.
honestly, the discussions in these threads can get so ridiculous sometimes!

Yes, but 90% of the great games are on the computer, I really feel that way and I have played both. To be honest, I think that my computer playing hours aren't yet more plentifull than my PC gaming, since I had NES and SNES as a kid.
Come on, is there anyone here who thinks pc games and console games are _exactly_ as good? Monolith you? I don't believe it, come out of the closet and confess!!!

well, to be real i think each platform excels at different things. Strategy games, RPGs, FPS all seem to be a lot better on PCs while sports games seem to be a lot better on consoles.

sequalitis is really a big problem i think. hype, and a previous good game is practically a license to print money it seems. all they have to do it update the gfx, and add a couple crappy features and they'll have a good seller. even games that are screwed up in the sequels have a good chance of selling well, example being civ3. as i become more experienced with games i skip sequels more and more often. the first games are almost always better in the gameplay department along with feeling fresher, and more stimulating.

i like rpg's but i can only take so many of them. my tolerance is falling quickly. lately, i've had a hard time finding games interesting which don't involve skill. with skill meaning useage of tactics, strategy, emergent gameplay, and things like aim in fps. rpg's are starting to have too many number and be too complex yet have virtually no skills involved. of course you can play rpg's with skill but that usually ruins them. a good example of skilled play ruining a rpg is morrowind, which is rife with exploits and is virtually no fun to play once you start to have some experience with the gameplay. rpgs are becoming big spread sheets where you gamble. i like games that become more and more fun and interesting as you start to master the gameplay(like wc3, quake, etc).

i think the gaming industry might have a problem eventually if they don't shape up. after buying b&w and civ3 i'm never going to buy a game without either trying it extensively, or reading the forums for a few days after it's been released. that means i won't be hyped into buying something which seems to be the way some companies work(like infogrames). frankly, now that i think about it there really isn't much of a reason to purchase a game right away. the only games now that i'd even consider purchasing right away are multiplayer games - so that i don't fall behind other players in skill, experience, or levels. the bargain bin is the way to go because a) you'll have a much better idea of how good the game is by waiting a few months b) it's cheaper c) any patches or game mods will most likely already be done d) playing older games means there is a better chance your pc will be faster and thus the game will run better.

i think the gaming industry is working on it's problems though. gamespy has a bunch of thoughtful articles on it recently. remember gaming is still a pretty new thing compared to movies, music, or books. i'm sure in 50 yrs it will be something people understand much better unlike now. most people today don't have an inkling about things like balance, or emergent gameplay but if you talk about books people know about character development and plot.
