Is putting people on Ignore rude?

I once went through the trouble of cutting and pasting to the IE the sig of Laz to see what the hell it was.

Nothing happened. And when I returned to the forums under his posts it said" this user is in your ignore list".

Nice. At least I know how it is to have someone on ignore.
Then I had to manually de-ignore him.
