Sucks to be them. I wouldn't wish their fate on anybody to be certain (it's no fun being dealt from the bottom of the deck), but it's not like their bad genes make them evil or anything -- they just give them disadvantages, disadvantages that I personally would prefer that my kids do without.

the problem i have with it is that of where do you stop. you could start out by removing for example (relevant to gatekeeper and i on this forum) a pre-disposition to develop diabetis, but how long before things such as stupidity and uglyness become 'defects' which need to be ironed out. it's a very grey area and one which i personally feel we would be far better off not getting into.

'kidding'???!!! I'm not f****** 'kidding', you dip****! That's the whole point! Selective breeding/genetic engineering is evil no matter whether you are breeding out big noses, low grades, or crap moderator skills.
So go suck on your toast
Just in case you get smart and edit this post out, I want to preserve it for posterity!

No you didn't. You said you would:
genetically engineer the defects out of my kids, and for others to be given the same option. Why should my kids have to be saddled with myopia and allergies and bipolar disorder and all that jazz?
You still haven't defined what you regard as a 'defect'. Just what do you include in 'all that jazz'? For example, would you have removed picasso's 'defects'?
Various syndromes, predisposition to cancer, Alergies, deformation, blindness, deafness, all sorts of neural atrophies, predisposition to certain deseases.
Personally, I find most opposition to genetic engineering silly and misinformed. I don't think that subjecting our genes to the free market would result in decreased diversity or any other sorts of commonly-cited problems (like the infant becoming magically radioactive and creating a Master Race Of Fire-Breathing Robots to eradicate humanity).
On a related note, I do oppose patents on genes (and business methods and look'n'feel and algorithms).
