I started another thread about this, but all you need now to be a journalist is a laptop, a digital camera and a satellite phone (or an ordinary phone, if the system is working). It's a lot harder than people think to impose complete censorship when you can carry around a portable TV studio in a knapsack.

they wouldnt like it, absolutely not. But they would never, at this point at least, risk war with the US to stop it. They'd play brinkmanship and such, but wouldnt go all the way.... and if they did, the US could take care of china. The fear of china before was just the extra manpower they would throw into that WWIII, the Soviets were the big concern, cause a war with them would likely have gone nuclear.

The US would win it now. And the reason is not only that now the Vietnamese would not have all the military support from the SU or China. An important issue is morale. Back then there was a powerful communist, anti-imperialist ideology. Now this is gone. There is no way the Vietnamese could now have the same level of morale as back then, not even close.
