  • Would you join a survivalist militia?

If it wasn't racist, fascist, or religious wackos. If they were only into survival in the event of natural disaster, ie self defense, and your political/religious beliefs are your own business and nobody elses. The aim being stockpiling of food, ammo, and weapons to weather a storm and protect loved ones.

Would you join? Take part in training? Help stock a shelter that was legal?

Hell no. Those people are wack.

Not worth my time. The chances of a disaster occurring in which the preparation would save my life are so remote that I'd do better on a cost/benefit basis to become a health nut or something.

You have to be a nut to join one. A normal person would not fit in.

Why should I share my stash?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                Kramerman, MM,

Ok lets start one. We're all sane, right? We have the ammo, weapons...hmmm. Maybe, maybe not.

                Well, I guess not.

Since these people are mostly crazy, no.

But picking up those skills isn't bad, at all, and having some guns too. I don't have anything against guns, but I think they should be less accessible.

If some abuse of the government affected me directly... like if Ashcroft deported my parents of something... but other than that, NO... those people are wackos. And they probably are conservative. We wouldn't get along anyhow.

I think Penn & Teller summed it up nicely. Most of the "survivalist" training groups like this teach is a load of bunk (ooh, make a cold, damp shelter out of sticks and leaves!).

If some catastrophe happens, chances are I'm either going to die in it or, if I survive, get along fine without knowing how to use camoflage. So it's certainly not worth my time, money or effort to join such a group.

                        Okay, probably not.

I would. Might learn something useful.

I just dislike these survivalist groups because they seem to want disaster. They seem to look forward to the day of anarchy when they would have to employ their survivalist skills. Anarchy and anarchists being my #1 pet peave (I love nothing more than civilization and the glorious, glorious material possesions and services it brings), would make me incompatible with these people. Most are those conservative Christian types too... Im agnostic/atheist... that would not work out too well also.
