a) Yes we do have much stricter gun control laws than the US does
b) There are ~7.5 million guns in Canada, or 1 for every 4 people. In the US there is 1 gun for every person, IIRC.

I wasn't far off. there are an estimated 200-250 million privately-owned guns in the US.

The percentage of handguns in the US is higher than Canada. The majority of Canada's guns are hunting rifles and shotguns.

Around 1/3 of US guns are handguns, IIRC.

The number for Canada is ~6-8%

Personally, the only weapons I think should be legal are 18th century muskets... that way we can keep the freedom of arms in the spirit of which the Founding Fathers understood.

280 million at last count, IIRC.

0.8*280 million = 224 million = right in the middle of 200-250 million
