  • Nostradamus, Mayan Prophecies, pole shifts, and one huge comet

After a great misery for mankind an even greater approaches. The great cycle of the centuries is renewed: It will rain blood, milk, famine, war and disease. In the sky will be seen a fire, dragging a tail of sparks. ---Nostradamus, Century 2, Quatrain 46 (1654)

A huge comet is rounding the sun, a comet twice the size of jupiter (from tip to end of tail -ed) (about 22 times the size of earth). Some have seen it at sunrise and sunset; otherwise, it is not visible because it is occluded by solar glare. Essentially, it is coming from behind the sun and was first observed by NASA less than two months ago.

NASA's solar observatory has released a number of pictures of this comet, but those stopped just as a huge coronal mass ejection (an event which is to the hydrogen bomb as the hydrogen bomb is to a firecracker) erupted from the sun toward the comet. Some call these things "sunspots."

This comet is passing within 9 million miles of the solar surface. In celestial terms, that is a very near miss.

You haven't heard about this, have you?

Remember the hullabaloo over Hale/Bopp and Levy/Shoemaker? They were pikers by comparison with what has been dubbed Comet "NEAT."

    Animated Sequence
Why all the silence this time?

I have read a good deal of speculation on several different internet sites. Some see it as biblical prophecy fulfilled (see Revelations - you might agree). Some consider this to be "Nibiru" or "Planet X," foretold by the Mayans as passing through the solar system every 3600 years or so. Some consider this simply to be an awesome photo opportunity.

Some say the strange weather on Earth lately is the result of an effect caused by the sun which in turn is responding to Comet NEAT.

Electromagnetic fields reach hundreds of millions of miles into space, you see, and are generated by all celestial objects. Influences occur at distances far in excess of that between the sun and comet Neat or, for that matter, between Earth and comet Neat.

The sun has a regularly-repeating solar "sunspot" activity cycle of approximately 11 years. 2000 was to have been the most recent peak. Solar > activity, rather than dropping off in year 12, as it always has, has continued to rise ever since.

Earth's magnetic field has been weakening in an accelerating fashion of > late. The North Pole, which wanders anyway, has traveled almost as far in the past 20 years as it did in the 100 years prior to that, when it was located in Canada's northern Yukon Territory.

Some hypothesize that Earth's poles reverse when its magnetic field reaches zero. The geological record proves the poles have shifted many times down through the history of the Earth (metal flakes in lava align with the magnetic field, to be frozen in place when the lava cools, you see, just like the needle in a compass). Coincidence? Perhaps.

Maybe it is nothing. Maybe it is something. If something, it could be the most significant occurrence in recorded human history.

Generally, the concern is not that Comet NEAT will strike Earth or even come near us (though I have yet to see a good description of its path relative to Earth). Rather, the concern is for the effect upon us through the electromagnetic interaction between it and Earth and the Sun. There is a secondary concern that something this huge could have smaller objects following in its wake, or that pieces of it broke off during the massive solar flare when it passed near the Sun, pieces that might find their way to Earth. "Planet buster" asteroids can be as small as 1/3 mile in diameter.

Just five days ago, a Rand Corporation (government think tank) scientist, Dr. Geoffrey Summer, publicly stated that secrecy would be the best option if it were discovered that an asteroid were about to hit the earth: "Overreaction not just by the public but by policy-makers scurrying around before the thing actually hits because we can't do anything about it anyway ... to a large extent you are better off not adding to your social costs."

Go here for one of NASA's official web pages carrying photographs of this comet: http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/2003_02_12/

Something tells me you should take a look right now, though. Who knows if this will be available even tomorrow?

For the moment, my question is, "Why is there so little media coverage of Comet NEAT?"

    ------------------
I find this mysterious "Planet X" comet to be fascinating, and I have been following it for some time. The prophet Edgar Cayce predicted a pole shift around this time chronologically, and after a certain volcano near Italy errupted (which did so just late last year). I can't recall it's name right now, I could look it up if anyone was interested. In any event, this is certainly an interesting time to be alive.

There isn't anything wrong with the statement, UR. the dust tails of comets can grow quite long, and the gas tails even longer. It isn't suprising the this one is this long.

i do not just flat out dont believe in prophecies, I am just veeeery skeptical. I try to keep an open mind tho...

That particular Nostradomus prophecy has been used many times before to describe many other events (cant recall any specifics, but it is a very famous one... several years ago i did a lot of research on Nostradomus out of interest). Its ambiguity is classic of the techniques of vagueness fake psychics and such use to con people... I wouldnt put much merit into it, if i were any of you.

But, but, you don't count the tail. Urgh.

            MS,

I strongly recommend James Randi's The Mask of Nostradamus to you.

UR ok I see now what you're getting at. He should have seperated the two parts. If you're really into that whole splitting hairs, nitpicky type of thing...

UR- I am for the most part a Nostradamus skeptic, I do realize his ambiguity could apply to a great deal of events, but every so often he does have something so specific that it can't be easily explained away. Let's not forget he named the his first two "antichrists" Napoleon and Hitler (or Nay o lo ron and Hister as he called them) and called out Franco by name too. He also may have named GW Bush, his third, and final, by name (which is a bit more complicated. He named him Mabus, which, with the first two letters mirrored and turned upside down, form gWBus and in Latin "h" is silent.)
Most of the time Nostradamus is too ambigious to really be applicable, but in some cases, he can't be dismissed so easily.

The comet is twice as LONG as jupiter, not twice the SIZE!!!
Holy hell, I was thinking that the main part of it was twice the size of Jupiter!!!

dont you think that is just a little far-fetched? I mean, the whole swithing letters and explaing away the resulting anamolies by saying its in latin, when Nostrodmus wrote in like a dozen languages anyway (to purposefully haze-over his quatrains)... i dont think so.

Here are Nostradamus's prophecies concerning the Third Antichrist which is very possibly GWBush. They also correlate with the "Planet X" Comet in a rather interesting manner.

The Third Antichrist soon annihilated, Twenty-seven years his bloody war will last: The heretics dead, captives exiled, Blood soaked bodies, and a reddened, icy hail covering the earth

Mabus will soon die, then will come, A horrible "undoing" of people and animals, At once one will see vengeance, One hundred (days) of power, thirst, famine, when the comet will pass.

Interestingly, if GWBush is indeed Mabus, Nostradamus seems to imply that he will meet an end sometime soon. It does seem that the USA would respond with the vengence Nosty described if Bush were killed by a terrorist.

Perhaps, but Nostradamus was usually off a letter or two. See the earlier examples. Now granted, this one requires a bit more "imagination" than the other two, but what are the chances that it could even be this close? Surely Clinton or Reagan couldn't be conceivably morphed into Mabus. Moreover, some of his other prophecies regarding Mabus seem to strongly point toward Bush, IMO.

his prophecies reguading the 3rd anti-christ could conceivablely point toward anyone in my opinion. Mabus may fit Bush better than Clinton or Reagan (wha are obviouls ynot the 3rd antichrists, as they have passed from power without revealing themselves as such), but what about some future president... and perhaps.. just maybe... the 3rd antichrist may not be an American! ...Saddam husein maybe? Kim Jong Il? Someone who has not even been born yet? Perhaps there is no 3rd anti christ...

This all just my opinion tho.

Monkie, that's why I recommend Randi's book. He did a very good job of debunking all sorts of attempts to make ole Mike's ramblings more accurate than they really deserve.

                              For example, Quatrain 2-24:

Bestes farouches de faim fleuues tranner,
Plus part du champ encontre Hister sera,
En caige de fer le grand fera treisner,
Quand rien enfant de Germain obseruera.
Here's is where one of the "Hitler references" came from. In fact, "Hister" refers to the lower part of the Danube River. So put that in perspective, you have:

"Beasts mad with hunger will swim across the rivers,
Most of the army will be against the Lower Danube,
The great one will be dragged in an iron cage,
When the child brother will observe nothing."

That doesn't look like a reference to Hitler at all.
