Bush has committed himself to an extremely high stakes set of policy choices, so whatever happens, it'll likely be a landslide.
If he's perceived as successful in Iraq, there's no other major crises, and the economy rebounds, he's untouchable.
If anything goes wrong, it would take a supreme act of self-immolation by the Democrats to keep Dubya in office.
I think 2004 will be a lot more about results than about ideology, so within limits, that helps the Democrats, who have trouble creating the illusion that we have a coherent national policy.
I think Lieberman-Edwards is the ticket for the Dems (in either order), and it should be interesting to see what Dubya does for a running mate in 2004 - if he sticks with Cheney, that does nothing for positioning a successor for 2008.When all else fails, blame brown people. | Hire a teen, while they still know it all. | Trump-Palin 2016. The war will have no impact on the elections next year (though a messy occupation may well hurt him). It didn't help his old man. People vote with their wallets and their stomachs. Americans are mostly concerned with winning the war on terrorism with the least amount of American deaths as possible. I don't think many Americans will die.
