          Too early to tell.

Unless the Dems cinch it for him by nominating another DUMBA**

Most of the likelies will get trounced, unless things really head south.

If they can find a good candidate, they could win a landslide, unless things get really great.

Hmmm, babble babble, too early to tell

We will win the war. There is a high chance that the economy is rebounding. There is an extremely high chance that Bush will be reelected. The Dems will have nothing. The debates will be the worst ever. Bush will be so damn confident.

Bush has committed himself to an extremely high stakes set of policy choices, so whatever happens, it'll likely be a landslide.

If he's perceived as successful in Iraq, there's no other major crises, and the economy rebounds, he's untouchable.

If anything goes wrong, it would take a supreme act of self-immolation by the Democrats to keep Dubya in office.

I think 2004 will be a lot more about results than about ideology, so within limits, that helps the Democrats, who have trouble creating the illusion that we have a coherent national policy.

I think Lieberman-Edwards is the ticket for the Dems (in either order), and it should be interesting to see what Dubya does for a running mate in 2004 - if he sticks with Cheney, that does nothing for positioning a successor for 2008.

                As evidenced by what, exactly?

If Bush doesn't pull things off very well, the Dems won't need much of anything.

                    That's why I wouldn't actually make a prediction.

The war will have no impact on the elections next year (though a messy occupation may well hurt him). It didn't help his old man. People vote with their wallets and their stomachs. Unless the economy rebounds spectacularly or the Dem's choose a loser, Bush is just another one-term-wonder like his old man.

I agree. Bush is a riverboat gambler. He seems like a good one, but even the best hit a bad string now and then... We'll either love him or hate him come election time.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Americans are mostly concerned with winning the war on terrorism with the least amount of American deaths as possible. I don't think many Americans will die. True, Iraq will not get straightened out, but it will be a victory for Americans, because a particularly bad dictator will be out of the picture, and the WoD will be found.

hmmm... Housing starts are looking good. I don't analyse these things. Most of the forcasters are predicting a rebound, so I go with them.

True, but unless there is another major terrorist attack or the economy crashes Bush will have a landslide.

                              There is a famous saying:

No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

There is an intuitive extension to that saying, which to my knowledge has never actually been stated. Let's call it the George W. Bush clause:

No one ever lost an election that way, either.
