  • Bin Laden predicts Martydom....

"Indeed surely this year will I lead my steed and hurl it, and my soul, at one of the targets ... and I become a martyr," Imran Khan, who runs Ansaar in the Midlands city of Birmingham, translated the tape as saying.

"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

Martydom is the fanatical muslim belief that you will die fighting Allah's enemies.

The translation I saw didn't say anything like that quote and I doubt that fat bearded git would ever have the balls to do anything other then tell his followers to kill themselves.

        I prefer Martygrah.

          Not strictly a Muslim thing.
Joan of Arc is a martyr, for instance.

Yes, but you never here any Christian church groups calling for its members to become Martyrs. Arab culture is much more fatalistic and unfortunately many people seem facinated with death and martyrdom.

Jesus was a martyr too, so are most of the christian Saints.

If the huge paintings/statues of Christ on the cross in Christian culture isn't a glorification of martyrdom I don't know what is.

                Martydom?

Dan Snyder will fire him from the Al Quaida head coaching job, and he'll be forced to take a job coaching Hezbollah in San Diego?

My prediction: The new guy hired to run AQ will be all talk and glitz, but they'll actually wind up blowing up fewer buildings in the 2003 season.

Isn't that Egyptian doctor fanatic the #2 in AQ?

You're missing the point entirely FP. The Christians honor people who died defending the cause but they don't go out and actively promoting and encouraging people to kill themselves. Nor do they encourage sucide attacks to kill children.

There are Good Martyrs and Bad Martyrs.

Whoever quarterbacks the Chicago Bears, is a bad martyr.

Actually I mostly agree with you ... I'm just playing devil's advocate (or being an *******, whichever you prefer ).

That would be quite remarkable. As a general rule the top guys NEVER blow themselves up, they "lead and inspire", they let the low level followers do the die for islam thing. (it could be argued that our generals dont die in combat much, but at least we're trying to help our soldiers keep from getting killed, not telling them to love and pursue death)
                            I'll wait and see.

i think he is probably on his deathbed. It is easy to say "i'm going to make a martyr out of myself" if one is already close to death. theoretically, they could even throw his corpse at something. charred remains would leave the time and method of death difficult to discern
