  • Saturday's War March (London)

Having a march through central London in protest of a government policy is something we should refrain from castigating. I do however believe that this march will be hijacked by the nutty left, which I think is a great shame. There are many legitimate groups with legitimate concerns who are often undermined by the Socialist Worker placards that dominate such marches.

The fact that Bob Crow will be one of the headline speakers at the event says a lot. It is a typical line up of the usual suspects, and Kennedy's attendance will only lend weight to a bunch of freaks who've always dominated the periphery of mainstream politics.

We need a group to organise a pro-war march. that would be much better attended, by the usually silent majority.

Incidentally, Ming, I've read your topped thread about war threads. This is about the "far-left" and direct action - it just happens that Iraq is the subject of this particular protest. It could quite easily be Palestine or anything...

Any March where the socialist workers party turn wit.h their banners should be boycotted.

I'd have to agree it will be dominated by a group of nut balls who really shouldn't be given prime time. Still it will be funny to read those oh so witty slogons they'll have on signs.

The SWPers will be dwarfed by the other 999 900 people attending. It's gonna be the most heavily supported popular march ever, according to insiders...

Come along. It'll be a historical occasion.

He wasn't there as an investigative reporter, he's not a journalist. He was there as a peacemaker, and for that everyone respects him.

                      You'll see. It'll be huge.

I don't respect him at all, he went to speak to a tyrrant and didn't mention at all that saddam might just possibly be partly responsible for all this.

He is a pathetic dogmatic anti-american anti captalist old reactionary.

Then why dress the interview he did as anything other than a propaganda piece?

It wasn't a propaganda piece. He wasn't trying to support saddam's viewpoint, just presenting it as is. I thought the questions were entirely neutral in every way.

He himself doesn't believe many of Saddam's answers. However, he was given the chance to interview Saddam on Saddam's terms or none, and I think he made the entirely right one. It's still an interesting piece of footage.

Benn is a deeply democratic idealist with strong pacifist leanings, who speaks passionately of his World War II experiences and is incredibly radical for such an old man. One of the finest people I've ever had the pleasure to hear speak.
