  • Apolyton freeware utilities thread.

All right. Let's do something useful you dumb ****ers.

There have been threads where someone asked or presented a useful free and high quality, tested, program.

There has been adaware for removing spyware and then another program like adaware only better.

There also have been threads about free and great up to date anti-virus programs.
Also programs which harmonize the MP3's volumes at the same rate, also anti-pop ups, web designers etc etc etc.

Anybody who can dig up those threads, or knows them already is kindly requested to post them here so we can have all in one place for easy reference.
Please include a very brief description or a link for your presented here favorite free programs.

I'll include them all nice and in order here in the first post of this thread.

    Let's go (at your leisure)

    ===========The Programs===========

    Fire walls:
    Zone Alarm

    Spyware removal programs:
    Ad-aware
    Spybot

    Anti-Virus programs:
    AVG

    Anti-pop ups/web filters
    Proximitron

Probably talking about Spybot: Search and Destroy.

--"There also have been threads about free and great up to date anti-virus programs."

        AVG Anti-Virus.

        --"also anti-pop ups,"

        Mozilla ^_^

Of course I can do it. The question is, do I WANT to?

                  Allrighty.

Thank you very much for your help to me and I'm sure to others.

That's more than I asked but I'm gonna include all of your proposals to the initial post, in categories a little bit later, in addition to those already made.

From your offers, at least another 3 categories emerge I think:
                  (alternative) browsers
                  file sharing programs
                  free games.

I will include them a bit later.

Also, Zoperroni what is the bigfix? Which category of program is it (and what does it do? I'm a bit ignorant (or more than that) on computers)

Vetty, could the programs you proposed be categorised under news client programs?

                  Thanks again

Graphics: GIMP (free photoshop kind of program!), IrfanView (best image viewer ever), eyedropper (great colorpicker)...

And hey, were's the free game section?

Will get to it a little bit later. I'm a busy lazy bastard. (not as contradictory as one may think...)

It would also help immensly if you could all include a link with your proposals.

They have but they are also busy lazy bastards

There's also another problem. When searching for a program I know nothing about (like those vetlegion proposed) and I'm faced with like 100.000 choices, I could very well take the wrong one (i.e. a webpage which is "secondary", "not official" etc

So if you already know and use that program and have downloaded and tried it from a certain location, it would be more certain to have it also included in this list from that location IMO

Webwasher at www.webwasher.com is good for filtering out advertisements and web junk.

Freezip is the best and most convenient zip utility I have ever seen.
