  • Mixed signals from the BBC

The BBC is currently giving incrediby mixed messages when it comes to it's stance on homosexuality.

The BBC programme 'Top of the Pops' have refused to play tatu's video yet UK TV (which I believe is owned by the BBC and inclused PlayUK, UK Gold and UK Food) has released a new channel, GayUK.

They've fired homophobic (And racist) presenters yet allow homophobic jokes in their programmes.

What do you think? does the BBC present the issue favourably, ignore it or resent it?

Not that I get much changes to see BBC nowadays I used to get it at home.... Anyway, how can they stop the tatu-video? It's totally innocent compared to most videos nowaday.

Basically because some right-wing 'newspapers' kicked up a fuss about it. Well, the video pretty much does criticize people like them.

I'm not 100% sure why the BBC has chosen to pander to them though. Recently it seems to have been making every effort to present themselves as a 'modern' channel in terms of racial equality.

I think that you are being a bit whiny on the issue.

            Melodrama isn't an appealing trait.

Whiny people, or those that marched, argued and demanded change. Whiny people accomplish nothing except to annoy everyone else.

This thread is not designed to be whiny, I was just wondering what stance the beeb is taking on the metter. They really are making a lot of effort over here to present themselves as a multicultural channel.

Though they could never be as good as channel 4

Richard and Judy, the Royals of British TV, said the video was paedophilac and gay, which didn't help the video's favour.

I found it amusing that straight after TotP yesterday was an episode of Only Fools and Horses that saw the main characters freaked out by a gay waiter ("We'll be dancing with our bums to the wall tonight Rodders") and then our heroes tried to chat up a couple of stunnas to find they were really a couple of men in women's clothes.

Just remember everyone: gays are sick freaks.

Ahh you mean that kind of middle aged men that in England usually are found dead in a latex schoolgirl uniform with a orange up their ass?

"Top of the Pops" never plays overtly sexual videos, be they gay or straight. I imagine a heterosexual equivalent feauting underaged rumpo would also not be screened.
