Looks like economists are saying that the economy only appears to be stabilizing, not growing as a drop in the unemployment rate would usually indicate.

I'd have to agree that this is probably a big part of the decrease. We'll find out for sure when next month's figures come out.
You don't have to be receiving unemployment in order to be considered in the unemployment numbers. So I doubt that this would have any effect at all.

There are actually two different releases: the weekly unemployment claims data that comes out every Thursday morning, and the monthly non-farm payrolls report that comes out on the first Friday of the month. Falling off the unemployment rolls as Che posted would show up in the weekly numbers, but not in the monthly surveys. Check out www.bls.gov for enough info on the two releases to put you in a bored coma.
