A Prayer for the austronauts of Columbia: Eli Eli......
he song was written by Hana Senesh. She was an immigrant to Israel from Hungary in the 30s IIRC, and a writer.
She later joined the Jewish brigades, and was the only woman in a group of 12 israeli jews who parachuted in Nazi occupied Europe, with the help of the brittish.
She was caught, tortured and executed.
I saw a documentary some time ago, must have been about her. They landed in Bosnia or Croatia and partisans lead them to Hungarian border. I forgot their mission... save Hungarian Jews and transfer them to palestine I think. In the documentary they talked highly of the woman (girl? she was in her twenties I think), they said she was young and beautiful and also very brave.
I dont remember was she tortured, I half watched the documentary while doing something else... but I remember her mother visited her in the prison and she held very strongly there. She also refused an attempt to rescue her .. but I m not sure, maybe I overheard wrong.
Very very brave girl... I will certainly download the wav to hear her song.

So was it Croatians that captured her?
1941 - Nazi Germany invades. A 'Greater Croatia' is formed, also comprising most of Bosnia and western Serbia. A fascist puppet government is installed under Ante Pavelic. The regime acts brutally against Serbs and Jews as it seeks to create a Catholic, all-Croat republic. Hundreds of thousands lose their lives.
