Heh. Found this light-hearted story on the raw news wires earlier today. Take a gander at it, laugh insanely, and contribute to this thread afterwards as you see fit.

MOSCOW (AP) — What does the stern-faced commander in chief of a million-strong army have in common with a self-effacing elf from a popular children's film? Nothing — except perhaps a longish nose, piercing eyes and a certain indefinable similarity.

Russian President Vladimir Putin may not be green and wrinkly like Dobby, the house elf from "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,'' but moviegoers have been struck by a certain resemblance.

The British Broadcasting Corp. even set up a Putin/Dobby poll on its children's Web site. Out of 9,188 people who cast votes as of Friday, nearly 57 percent agreed that Putin does look like Dobby.

Russian media reported last week that a Moscow law firm was preparing to sue the makers of the Potter movie for intentionally modeling the character on Putin. However, no law firm has come forward to take credit for the idea.

**tsk, tsk** I know the feeling. Yet another American myth shattered by reality — frivolous lawsuits are, indeed, filed elsewhere on planet Earth. It's a shame, really. Us Americans just aren't that unique anymore (if we ever were).

I personally think Putin is still beholden to the successor agency of the KGB. Where's a nice, clean sock when you need one?

I was refering to an event from the movie, not whatever other connotations a "clean sock" has outside that setting. I'm not worldly enough to know intimately about that, although I have a sneaking suspicion it involves birth control items.

In the movie, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," Dobby is an enslaved house elf to the Draco family, which practices (apparently) the dark arts of wizardry. He is freed at the end of the movie when Harry puts a sock in a Draco book, and gives the tome to the Draco patriarch, who promptly shoves it into the hands of his slave house elf (Dobby) to carry.

The sock frees Dobby from enslavement because the curse is broken when the house elf's master gives him a piece of clothing. In this case, the sock in the tome. The Draco patriarch didn't do this intentionally, and is torqued off at Harry.

Anyway, that ties into my original post: Since Putin hasn't gotten new clothing from his master yet, which dark family is he still enslaved to? The KGB's successors, of course ...
