We don't have goals anymore. These days we're just hoping for the occasional long-bomb touchdown.

Who feels well represented by their political party anymore? This is a hate based system. We vote to keep the other guys out, not get our guys in.

Who knows how long it will take before the Republicans fulfill their chimera-fantasy of restoring the Articles of Confederation government that existed before our current Constitution.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Was Lincoln the first Republican President ?

Why yes he was, SlowwHand. Too bad the Republicans abandoned his philosophies long ago:

I saw an interesting talk by former NY-mayorial candidate Mark Green on C-Span this morning. He advanced the view that, because of the corrupting influence of Buckely v. Vellejo [money = speech], elected officials today fall into one of two categories: those who are self-financing multimillionaires and those who are owned by the special interests.

Sure! The "goals" are just smoke and mirrors to get the voters worked up. Fewer and fewer vote because more people realize how pointless it is.

I don't know the answer and as I get older I think about it less and quit worrying about it. That's for the guys that still get worked up.

If you vote, hang your chads! It really messes w/ em!

Zkribbler: Which might just be preferable to only self-financing millionaires. At least you can choose which "special interests" (hopefully the ones you agree with already? Drat, I'm being idealistic again) you want to sell out to.

Therefore this is not a syllogism.

...But you could have. Limits on campaign contributions and spending could have shifted the focus of collecting money from the big contributors (billionaires, corporations, unions and PACs) to small contributors (the middle class). Instead, the shift has been in the other direction.

I was just wondering, if Lincoln was a water-walker, when exactly did the Republican Presidents begin to suck ?
Not than I count myself as a Republican, as I say, just wondering.

Ha! I love it when Republicans say crap like "Lincoln was a Republican..." the name aside, Lincoln was a political moderate who did not like corporations, trusts, and capitalists. Republicans as we know them today came about after WW2. Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican; and today if he were around, he'd be labeled a "socialist" for the reforms he wanted. It's just a matter of using a name to fool ignorant voters. "We're the party of Lincoln"... bullsh1t... if Lincoln were alive today, he'd be a Democrat.

This isn't limited to Republicans, but when have politicians of either side ever done anything they promised during elections?

                            Hi Sloww,
yes I know that... that was the point of my little rant; he was a Republican then... but today, he'd be a Democrat. Republicans are trying to confuse and deceive voters... what a surprise
