That is amazing!!! And after all of that he can still walk, talk and think with a clear mind....*speechless*

Just a few months ago, Parra's car was hit by a drunken driver and his head was almost completely severed from his body, with only his spinal cord keeping it connected.
how could he have asked for a priest?? wouldn't his vocal cords be severed as well??? Hmmmmm:hmm: That is really amazing! I can't even imagine how that would look.

I'm guessing it's the guys dad. They probably took out a few lines in the editting process.

The same thing happened with this story about a polevaulter a while back.

Well the problem I have there is that if nothing but the spinal cord was severed, then this would have meant that the front of his neck was severed, including carotid artery...he would have bled to death in seconds if that was severed...

            Once again...
The spinal cord and arteries had not been damaged

How could he have possibly survived without blood going to his brain? It only takes minutes for irreversible brain damage to occur.
Obviously not. There are plenty of people still typing away here at apolyton that seem to have not had any blood reach their head in quite a long time.

I am aware of what it said Apoc, but how is that possible as it would be impossible to sever the neck without slicing clean through the blood vessels at the front?

I totaly see your point PH...there are some huge gaps in the story...they did say the arteries wheren't damaged but that doesn't explain the fact that they also said NOTHING but the spinal cord was holding his head on!
completely severed from his body, with only his spinal cord keeping it connected.

I believe this article either had a bad editting job, a bad writer, or both. Again, that would also explain how the priest was talked to.

the vocal cords should still work.

the only thing broken was bone. It's not like his head was completely seperate from his body.

I'm really confused about what exactly happened, can someone who knows what exactly was sliced diced and broken tell me plain and simple what happened to him?

As of right now I'm assuming the arteries weren't cut yet everything around them was, and the spinal cord remained attached but barely, surely his head could have fallen clean off?

but it so happens that Dickman had been perfecting a technique to treat an injury as rare as Parra's.

I'm very happy for the kid, I'm happy for him that he can have a normal life again, thanks to Dr. Dickman, but what is the use of perfecting a technique that's very rarely going to be used anyway?
