    you're pushing it
France has this very arrogant thing about the rest of the world, but is also very appreciative from many foreign things, from the 18th century where Chinese art was the rage in the royal court to today where many foreign directors have a much larger following in France than in their native country (M. Leigh, W. Allen). The one movie now doing exceeding well is a old Miyazaki (1986) that is re-shown. Paris is also where you'll find the most galleries on African Arts.

Now, that's not to excuse diplomatic blunders. But when a canadian minister says Bush is an idiot, does it mean that canadians have 'no respect for the rest of the world'?

There is nothing wrong with France.

            The French are another matter.

I think the misquote from Star Wars discribes them best:

"You will never find a more retched hive of scum and villany, ...then France, ".

              Both

It a frickin' blizzard outside -20 C temperature, high winds, can only see 20 or 30 meters. Walk 2 blocks and yer face is frost bit.

I'm guessing it's the same in Quebec today.

              That should clear things up.

It was no blunder, it was a setup shot at Bush.

Quite a bit of differience between callin' names and
blowin' off nukes in the south pacific and commiting
terrorist bomb attacks in New Zealand as part of
                state policy.

No, no my dear Ozz. You should never mistake forums for real life.

France may be alianating the US. This is not the whole world.
Apolyton is populated by english and americans. What you see here is not representative of the world.
Just of UK and US. Two countries which have problems with France.

Oddly enough, that's what my initial post was about also.
I've lived most of my life in northwestern Quebec. I'm used to the cold, the long winters etc... but i still hate it. With a passion.

but where the hell is it again American business to decide whom France should or shouldn´t invite?
You stay out of our buisness and we'll stay out of yours.

Besides, you want to talk Emperialism? What the heck are the French and the entire EU trying to do? Selective Emperialism?

Why are the French inviting Mugabe for a State visit anyway?

                          [continued threadjack]

This is a particularly cold spell, at least down here. It's been a long time since we've had temperatures down around 0 F. Accordingly to the radio, however, we're due for a heat wave tomorrow (25F high). Woohoo!

                          [/threadjack]

Uh, yeah, the French suck and stuff.

Japher, the euro is stronger than the dollar.
Some years back noone in the US thought that the euro could ever exist let alone overtake the almighty dollar.

I like to think of this as a sign of potential.
