  • No 2nd Resolution

Looks like we aren't going to get a 2nd resolution. It's a shame that the 2nd resolution was ambushed by France and Germany. I guess we'll (and the UK and Hungarians, etc., if they choose) will have to have a coalition of the willing to take this guy down.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Once again, this shows the folly of allowing second-class nations like France in the Security Council so they could salve their hurt little ego's post-WW2.

Yea, it's not like we really would NEED anyone else's help tho, our lot and your lot can easily take them out without much damage whatsoever. It's just a shame we have such cowerdly countries in the west... but then again.... the French have never been reknowned for fighting wars so no loss there...

This appears to take a lot of top level decision-making out of the UN Security Council. It couldn't deal with Kosovo. Now Iraq.

This signals a diminishment of French influence, since it is a diminishment of the Security Council. I wouldn't have been surprised to see Germany go this way, considering they are temporary, but France has a lot invested.

I just wish the Saudis and Kuwaitis and Turks would tell us to **** off. Let's see us try to mount an invasion with a base on an island in the Persian Gulf

It would have been nice to have this 2nd resolution, though. It would have increased the UK's prestige, since it's prestige is firmly moored to the SC.

The US should have attacked Iraq right away while time was ripe. Going to the UN was a diplomatic mistake. Did you really expect that the UN would approve the war?

The Vagabond: The plan was to put enough pressure on Hussein that he would give up the goods. But France apparently didn't have the kahunas to see it through. This is a shame for France, because France's voice is only one of a multitude w/o speaking through the SC.

We really didn't lose anything by doing it. It takes a while to assemble a force, anyway.

Or perhaps they just realized that if the US has a right to nuclear weapons, so does Iraq. And seeing as how we have used nukes far more maliciously than Iraq has, I don't see the problem.

Come to think of it, France has used chemical weapons far more maliciously than Iraq has, as has Germany

David, I have no personal animostity towards you. But I have read your posts hoping that the US troops get badly bloodied in the upcoming action.

Resisting the temptation to say something offensive to you, let me try to act like a rational person instead.

Will you please refrain from making statements of this nature. Some of us have family and friends that will be involved and it would be very decent of you to avoid inflicting unnecessary emotional stress on us.

                        Thank you in advance.

I'm very sympathetic - I understand that those people are being ****ed over by Bush & Gang, just like the Iraqis are.
