  • Could someone help me with mouse-driver problem?

I just reformatted my HD, the only things I have installed is:

    Mouse driver
    Graphic driver
    SimCity 4 (To test)

In windows I have my normal mouse speed (the one I have set it to, in the mouse properties), but when playing most games (or use certain apps), the mouse is set to lowest speed. I had this problem before I formated (that was the reason why I formatted... SimCity 4 was the test-game, to see if this still was the problem)

When I uninstall the mouse drivers, the mouse speed is back to normal again, when playing games. But when reinstalling the drivers, it goes back to slow again

I have only been able to find two different mouse drivers to my mouse:

-The newest (from logitech) (The one I have installed/uninstalled many times now)
-Some very old driver, that's on the cd, that was included with the mouse (This one doesn't work in WinXP... It only allows me to move my mouse, and press the normal buttons... but can't use the two special buttons)

Does anyone have any idea what I can do, to make it work?

Btw, I have just upgraded my computer a week ago. Before the upgrade I have never had this problem...

Why don't you just raise the mouse sensitivity setting in the game?

      Two reasons:

      1) In 90% of the games I play, there's no such setting
      2) In the other 10% where there's such option, the mouse sensivity is only changed in the menu. When playing, it's back to "slow as hell"

Does changing the mouse speed in Control Panel->Mouse do anything?

Only in windows. I can set it to full speed, but in games it still goes down to slowest speed...

When uninstalling the drivers, the mouse speed works fine in games, but then I can't use my special buttons

there could be an .ini file or .txt file that has things like "mouse sensitivity" in them. i dont know though if all or any games have this though.

I believe that in games, where you can't set the sensitivity in the game, has such .txt .ini file... but even in the game that has the sensitivity option, it somehow "forgets" that it is changed, when starting the game...

But I could try to do a search for it...

What version of DirectX are you using.

Some of the old versions don't play well with logitech mice. Get the latest version.

Whats the full product name of your mouse ?

(for example: "Logitech MX 500 Optical" would be mine)

You had WinXP, right ? Then go to www.tweakxp.com ,and search with the word "mouse" or "sensitivity". There was some tweak that fixed my mouse to work in OpenGL games.

OK. You upgraded the hardware and you've now got some weird conflict with your mouse in some games. Since everything was fine before, it seems to me that the possible sources of conflict from the hardware you mention are the BIOS and a conflict caused by the installation and winXP. Since you've now formatted the HD and done a clean install of winXP that would take out one potential source of installation conflicts. Its not much help, but I would check with the Asus website to see if there is any info on known conflicts with the BIOS or chipset and your mouse. There may be a fix. Anyway it may give you a lead on what's wrong.

I can't find the mouse anymore anywhere... Logitech doesn't even have a picture of the mouse ( Strange, since it's the best mouse they've ever made)... but I found a picture of a different mouse (which looks like the one I have):

                              I don't know what it's called...

                              I'll check tweakxp.com and asus.com in a few minutes...
