NEW YORK CITY MAYOR FUMED OVER 'SMOKING' ON STAGE AT STONES CONCER

    **Exclusive**

New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is fuming mad over Rolling Stones members smoking on stage at Madison Square Garden during an nationally televised concert this weekend, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"The mayor sent cops to issue summonses," one stage source told the DRUDGE REPORT late Saturday. "But the cops watched the show, off stage, by a monitor, instead of stopping the concert."

    MORE

HBO cameras captured band members Keith Richards and Ron Wood smoking cigarettes while performing.

"The band raced out of the Garden after they finished their last number, avoiding the police," an insider said. "The music had not even finished playing; and they were in cars already, spinning away. They did not even go to their dressing rooms!"

Madison Square Garden regulations state: there is no smoking permitted. "This policy is strictly enforced. Violation of this regulation is grounds for ejection."

In December, ex-smoker Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a strict smoking ban in New York City.

Bloomberg is also trying to get smoking banned in Central Park.

OK, Bloomberg, get the stick out of your ass. The cops even thought that was stupid. People are gonna do crazy stuff at rock concerts - and smoking a cigarette is pretty mild compared to what they could be doing.

Bottom line - get over yourself.

I don't know what's worse, the fact that Bloomberg did this or the fact that Drudge thought it was newsworthy and you thought threadworthy.

they broke the law... the mayor did what he is supposed to do...

if you got a problem with the law, petition to change it... don't just disobey it.

Yes, Drudge Report is pretty stupid. No, this isn't really newsworthy. It's pretty laugh-worthy, though.

Floyd, Speer is actually right here.

Bloomburg had a law and wanted it carried out. Don't see why he wouldn't be mad.

The point is, enforcing that law seems pretty heavy-handed and ridiculous. It's sorta like New Orleans arresting people for underage drinking during Mardi Gras.

The law is the law, Floyd...

You don't just ignore it when you don't feel like abiding by it.

I agree that the drinking age in the US is too high, but I still don't have a problem with cops arresting people for underage drinking...that's their jobs.

So you're saying the law can be circumvented on special occassions?

Yes Speer, Floyd doesn't believe in democracy if it does not benefit him.

                          Jesus Christ people!

New Orleans DOES NOT enforce underage drinking laws on Mardi Gras, to my knowledge, for one good reason - it would be silly to. It's gonna happen, everyone knows it's gonna happen, and no one there really cares.

Similarly, it's silly for New York to enforce an anti-smoking statute during a rock concert. It's gonna happen, worse stuff than that is gonna happen, no one at the rock concert really cares, if they were health nuts who cared about second hand smoke they're probably smart enough to avoid getting their ears blasted out at rock concerts. Obviously, the police agreed, as they did nothing to stop it.

Now, a city such as New York with such a high amount of violent crime should focus on stopping that, not ticketing people for smoking. Come on.

Murder is going to happen, I still think it should be illegal.

Oh gimme a break. If you want to equate breaking a smoking statute with murder, then I'll equate an anti-smoking statute with a statute protecting slavery
