Ah right, I get you. Um... as far as I know it has to have the -CN group like you say to be considered cyanogenic but mostly when people speak of cyanide they are talking about hydrogen cyanide.

I'm not entirely sure, but vitamin B-12, cyanocobalamin, is intimately tied into cellular metabolism, and includes a -CN group. Chances are that other -CN compounds find their way into the position B-12 usually occupies, and blocks things up. The fact that just about every cyanide compound I can think of (Except B-12) is toxic seems to support this.No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
