    Gulf War vets sue suppliers

  • #2
If the vets are going to sue anyone, it should be the US government. Even if the Iraqis used chemicals, it was in self defense - remember, the US was never attacked by Iraq. Quite obviously, then, the proper entity that should be sued is the US government, for warmongering.

But then again, these people volunteered, so presumably they knew the risks. This lawsuit is ridiculous.

The EU isn't going to like that. I doub't that they have much of a case though.

Oh, and if companies are responsible for this, shouldn't the US have to pay cancer victims from Hiroshima and Nagasaki? And compensate burn victims from Dresden? Maybe England and France and Germany, etc., owe each other money for chemical attacks in WW1. I could go on at length, but I won't. Again, this is just silly.

Seriously, though - why should US companies be liable for chemical weapons used against US troops, when the US troops were actually ATTACKING a country? It makes no sense at all.

I could perhaps see the logic if it was the other way around - it would still be silly, but a little less so.

I'm pretty sure that U.S. military personnel can't sue the government for anything that happens to them while their in the military.

As for this suit against the manufacturers, haven't the various statutes of limitations all run--a long time ago??

I'm sure you're correct. I don't really think they should - it would just make much more sense to.

Most of the companies being sued are European.

It should be an interesting case to watch. If they do win, it would set quite a precedent. It would change the whole nature of the weapons industry, if they found themselves liable for anyone killed or injured by their products.

That's why it's never going to fly, or that what I predict.
