Now look at England, overrun by immigrants from nations they once controlled, lapdog to their former colony, and economic puppet to the European mainland...

Blair is the lapdog, he doesn't have popular support with regards to his posturing with Bush...and we certainly don't seem to be an economic puppet to Europe either, being a member of the EU has brought us many, many benefits which you have conveniently ignored.

The British empire (and all the atrocities it commited) were horrifying. Britain today is sad (Arrogent people, unofficially belonging to America, etc).

Will this fate befall Mewica?!?! Oh well......

The critical turning point was India. The East India Company beat out the French by promising not to send priests to convert the people, so France's Indian allies defected to the British side. They kept their word too, no English priests were allowed into Indai until the British government turned the country into an empire in the 19th century. By then Indian culture was beginning to reassert itself.

Is the program any good? I saw an article in The Guardian bashing it (didn't read the article, just glanced at the header) as a whitewashing of the Empire. Not that The Guardian is exactly objective...

So, Brits who have seen the show, what do you think of it?

Actually the Soviet Union exceeds even the Nazis.

                      Thanks Static.........

I did watch the programme, well the first 30 minutes of it. Quite interesting really. I didnt see the rest but I expected them to touch on that map (cant remember what it was called) that we knicked from the dutch, the one that showed us their already discovered lands.

Anyway, its a good program, ill be watching next time.

And I always thought the "steal map" option in Civ was unrealistic.

it said on the Program that Britains attrocitys are far more well known than the meny more good things it did,
America too has commited meny attrocitys, the only difference is the British accept the ones they've made and say sorry.

England didn't start apologizing until they were in a much weaker bargaining position with their ex-colonies.

Then suddenly they're all weepy-eyed and wanting to establish fairer trade agreements.

Although I agree with you, it'd be nice if you called it the British Empire. We must allow those darn clever Scottish engineers to have their fair share of the credit/blame for the whole nasty affair.
