  • Guess the anthems

Inspired by the "guess the languages" puzzle thread, which was some time ago.

In this thread you'll have to guess the anthems (they will be written in English, but I specially chosen anthems in which name of country isn't mentioned). You'll have to say to which country each anthem belongs.

    1:
A treasure is our tongue that surges
From deep shadows of the past,
Chain of precious stones that scattered
    All over our ancient land.
A burning flame is our tongue
    Amidst a people waking
From a deathly sleep, no warning,
Like the brave man of the stories.
Our tongue is made of songs
    From our soul's deepest desires,
    Flash of lighting striking swiftly
Through dark clouds and blue horizons.

Our tongue is the tongue of bread
When the winds blow through the summer,
    Uttered by our forefathers who
Blessed the country through their labour.
Our tongue is the greenest leaf
    Of the everlasting forests,
    Gentle river Nistru's ripples
    Hiding starlight bright and shining.
Utter no more bitter cries now
That your language is too poor,
And you will see with what abundance
Flow the words of our precious country.

Our tongue is full of legends,
Stories from the days of old.
    Reading one and then another
Makes one shudder, tremble and moan.
    Our tongue is singled out
To lift praises up to heaven,
    Uttering with constant fervour
Truths that never cease to beckon.
Our tongue is more than holy,
    Words of homilies of old
    Wept and sung perpetually
In the homesteads of our folks.

    Resurrect now this our language,
Rusted through the years that have passed,
Wipe off filth and mould that gathered
    When forgotten through our land.
    Gather now the sparkling stone,
Catching bright light from the sun.
You will see the endless flooding
    Of new words that overflow.
A treasure will spring up swiftly
From deep shadows of the past,
Chain of precious stones that scattered
    All over our ancient land.

    2:
My native land, my joy, delight,
How fair thou art and bright!
And nowhere in the world all round
Can ever such a place be found
So well beloved as i love thee,
    My native country dear!

My little cradle stood on thy soil,
    Whose blessings ease my toil.
With my last breath my thanks to thee,
For true to death I'll ever be,
O worthy, most beloved and fine,
    Thou, dearest country mine!

May God in Heaven thee defend,
    My best, my dearest land!
May He be guard, may He be shield,
For ever may He bless and wield
O graciously all deeds of thine,
    Thou dearest country mine!

    3:
    God is greatest!
    God is greatest!
He is above plots of the aggressors,
And He is the best helper of the oppressed.
With faith and with weapons I shall defend my country,
And the light of truth will shine in my hand.
    Sing with me!
    Sing with me!
    God is greatest!
    God is greatest!
    God, God, God is greatest!
    God is above the aggressors.

O world, look up and listen!
    The enemy's army is coming,
    Wishing to destroy me.
With truth and with my gun I shall repulse him.

    And should I be killed,
I would kill him with me.
    Sing with me -
    Woe to the Imperialists!
And God is above the treacherous tyrant.
    God is greatest!
Therefore glorify Him, O my country,
And seize the forehead of the tyrant
    And destroy him!

    4:
We were born at night, when the she-wolf whelped.
In the morning, as lions howl, we were given our names.
In eagles nests, our Mothers nursed us,
To tame a stallion, our Fathers taught us.

We were devoted to our Mothers, to people and the Native land,
And if they will need us - we'll respond courageously,
We grew up free, together with the mountain eagles,
Difficulties and obstacles we overcame with dignity.

Granite rocks will sooner fuse like lead,
Than we lose our Nobility in life and struggle.
The Earth will sooner be breached in boiling sun,
Than we appear before the world; losing our honor.

Never will we appear submissive before anyone,
Death or Freedom - we can choose only one way.
Our sisters cure our wounds by their songs,
The eyes of the beloved arouse us to the feat of arms.
If hunger gets us down - we'll gnaw the roots.

If thirst harasses us - we'll drink the grass dew.
We were born at night, when the she-wolf whelped.
God, Nation, and the Native land
We devote ourselves only to their service

    5:
    Hasten to glory and supremacy!
Glorify the Creator of the heavens
And raise the green, fluttering flag,
    Carrying the emblem of Light!
    Repeat - God is greatest!
    O my country,
My country, may you always live,
    The glory of all Muslims!
    Long live the King,
For the flag and the country!

    6:
Hasten to battle, men of Bayamo,
For the homeland looks proudly to you.
You do not fear a glorious death,
Because to die for the country is to live.
    To live in chains
Is to live in dishonour and ignominy.
    Hear the clarion call,
    Hasten, braves ones, to battle!

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Well firstly the only pure green flag out there is Libya's but there are plenty of others with some green on them so that's a bit of a red herring.

I'll list first letters of each country, so that I don't spoil it for others. Sonic can tell me if I'm right or I can post the second letter or more of each one as required

            1. M*
            2. E*
            3. L*

Seneca is right, 6th one is Cuba
              Zopperoni, 5th is Saudi Arabia
              2nd is not Israel though

So 1, 2, 3 and 4 still needs to be guessed.

Demerzel, are you some expert of anthems or what?

                      # 3 is scary!
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Tassadar - no one said countries must be independent . The same I can give anthems of old countries, etc.
                              New antehms...

                              7:
We are brave people, children of honesty.
We sacrificed all on the way to liberty.
We have survived the kicks of fortune,
Hell's fire, and came off unhurt.

                              CHORUS

Fly high the eagle of freedom,
                              Calling for unity!
People have the power of the hero,
And the power of people is in unity.

Respecting mothers and the genius of the people,
In the evil times we were open to everybody.
                              Our steppe is our motherland,
The holy cradle of friendship and solidarity.

                              CHORUS

Let the past teach us a lesson,
We believe in a bright future.
We respect honour, dignity and our mother tongue.
We pass on our traditions, courage
And our state to future generations.

                              8:
Our immemorial land under the beacon of gleaming ice
With glowing snow hair around your head!
Your faithful mother, who carried us in your embrace,
While ocean game of your coasts you promised us.

                              9:
                              May the Emperor's rule last
Till a thousand years, then eight thousand years to come
                              Till sand, pebbles, and rocks
To be united as a ledge
                              Till moss grows on it

                              10:
                              CHORUS(twice)

                              Let us salute the motherland,
Proud to be called her children.
To her well-being let us swear
Boldly and unceasingly to devote our lives.

Of peace enjoyed in perfect happiness,
Our homeland has always nobly dreamed.
To achieve this has been her eternal proposition,
To keep it, her greatest glory.
With inviolable faith, she eagerly follows
                              The way of progress
In order to fulfil her high destiny
                              And achieve a happy future.
                              A stern barrier protects her
Against the clash of vile disloyalty,
Ever since the day when her lofty banner,
In letters of blood, wrote "Freedom",
                              Wrote "Freedom", wrote "Freedom".

                              CHORUS

                              Freedom is her dogma and her guide;
A thousand times she has defended it,
And as many times has she repelled
The hateful power of atrocious tyranny.
Her history has been bloody and sad,
Yet at the same time sublime and brilliant,
                              A source of legitimate glory
And a great lesson in Spartan pride.
Her innate bravery shall not waver:
In every man there is an immortal hero
Who knows how to maintain the level
Of the proverbial valour of old.

                              CHORUS

                              All are self-denying and faithful
To the tradition of warlike ardour
With which they have always reaped fame
                              By saving the motherland's honour.
To respect the rights of others
And base her actions on right and justice
Is for her, without infamous intrigue,
The constant and most firm ambition.
And in following this line she persists,
                              Dedicating her tenacious efforts
                              In giving hard battle for battle;
Her happiness is found in peace.

                              CHORUS

                              11:
Fear not and be not dismayed, this crimson flag will never fade.
It is the last hearth that is burning for my nation,
And we know for sure that it will never fail.
It is my nation's star, shining forever,
It is my nation's star and it is mine.

Frown not, fair crescent, for I am ready to die for you.
Smile now upon my heroic nation, leave this anger,
Lest the blood shed for thee be unblessed.
                              Freedom is my nation's right,
Freedom for us who worship God and seek what is right.

                              12:
                              We people of our nation
                              Exercise sov'reignty.
                              Establish our Constitution
                              Of Federated States.
Affirm our common wish to live
                              In peace and harmony.
                              To preserve heritage of past
                              And promise of future.

                              CHORUS:
Make one nation Of many isles,
                              Diversity Of our cultures.
                              Our diff'rences Will enrich us,
