  • Lombardi Handicappers' League: Week 18 (Wild-Card)

Gentlemen: The individual portion of the competition now shifts from CBS to here, as CBS does not run picks during the playoffs (while we, of course, do). So I hope everyone's in the mood to have all of their playoff picks seen, because I sure as hell am not letting you guys clog up my PM box with them.

First things first: The standings as they are now on CBS are incorrect. CBS did not add the score for the three individuals who correctly picked Monday night's San Francisco/St. Louis game (namely myself, Drake, and Ming). The correct individual standings are as follows:

    zoom 155 SA 133
    reismarkTK 133
    Laser 131
    RAH-SKP 121
    [BBB]brtndr4u 121
    Berzerker 119
    J-rabbit 119
    ColdWizard (SKP) 117
    Chris Poulos 116
    Ming SKP 116
    Imran Siddiqui 115
    Slow Hand 115
    The Peacemaker-TFB 113
    [BBB]mactbone 112
    Sloth 110
    Vlad Wood {SPW} 110
    Guynemer TFB 109
    [BBB]ixnay37 99
    Drake Apolyton 93
    MOBIUS [SPW] 88
    MrWizardSA 73
    SuperSneak SPW 71
    Sam aka Fuel SA 53
    John Thornton TFB 52
    Orioles 25

With that being said, the team competition is officially over and the points stand thus:

    Slicker Pickers: 118.00 points
    Rush: 117.67 points
    Black & Blues Brothers 2002: 110.67 points
    Slackers: 108.00 points
    Fargin' Bastiges: 91.33 points
    Superwhorde: 89.67 points

In the closest team race in recent memory, Ming's Monday Night pick of the Rams proves to be the difference-maker as the Slicker Pickers edge out Rush for the team crown. (Thus explaining the moderators' recent actions - I do hope they're back soon to celebrate).

As a reminder, I'm posting the scoring system we'll be using for the playoffs, which has been on display all season on CBS on the Pool Rules page:

A scaling point system, outlined below, will be in effect for the four playoff rounds. We will also use custom spreads during the playoff rounds to make tieing impossible (meaning all spreads will be half-pointers). We will be picking the over/under in addition to a team for the Super Bowl. A number will be posted, and you will have to guess whether the final combined score of the Super Bowl will be over or under that number. You will then get or lose the listed points depending on your correctness.

    WILD-CARD ROUND: 2 points for a win; -1 point for a loss
DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS: 4 pts. win; -2 pts. loss
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS: 8 pts. win; -4 pts. loss
SUPER BOWL XXXVII: 12 pts. win; -6 pts. loss; 6 pts. O/U win; -3 pts. O/U loss
    And now... it's picking time.

Ah, the playoffs... it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

    Indianapolis/N.Y. Jets Jets by 6 1/2
    Atlanta/Green Bay Packers by 6 1/2
    Cleveland/Pittsburgh Steelers by 7 1/2
    N.Y. Giants/San Francisco 49ers by 3 1/2

Well... you know most of these spreads JUST won't do. Your esteemed co-leader selects thus:

    Jets, Falcons, Browns, Giants

Can I keep my hot streak of the past few weeks up? BE THERE!

Sloww: Just so you know, if we picked straight-up I'd go Jets, Packers, Steelers, Giants. Remember, Green Bay nearly lost to Atlanta opening week at home and that was WITH Driver, and the Browns/Steelers spread is just too big not only for a playoff game but a rivalry one at that (I think the Steelers win by exactly a touchdown and no more.)

Go Slicker Pickers... I'm glad I was able to help in the end, because I've been the weak link on our team all year. GO TEAM!

And Rush thought they had it all locked up...

        Picks to come later.

That's pretty close. Only 1 away from being perfect.

Well, Team Rush would have won the team competition if my picks for the first week would have been allowed.

                          Indianapolis/N.Y. Jets Jets by 6 1/2
                          Atlanta/Green Bay Packers by 6 1/2
                          Cleveland/Pittsburgh Steelers by 7 1/2
                          N.Y. Giants/San Francisco 49ers by 3 1/2

                          I'll take:
                          Jets
                          Atlanta
                          Cleveland
Giants (Damn 49ers cost us the Team lead)

Bump, can one of the mods make this one sticky? It's rather important to Lombardi pickers see it.

I think every team had someone miss a week.

Of course last year we thought we had it pretty much locked also, just to falter in the last few weeks.
