  • Formatting c:

Basically, my sound card driver is screwed up, and in turn it's affected my entire PC. So, I resort to formatting c:.

It goes upto 100% complete, and jack **** happens. It's like I never even attempted to format it.

    Any ideas?

Did you format it from DOS?

    You could always fdisk it.

You're clearly knackered, and will have to resort to shamanism. I suggest buring the body of a new-born calf and then ritually feasting on it's testes. Usually works for me.
I have discovered that China and Spain are really one and the same country, and it's only ignorance that leads people to believe they are two seperate nations. If you don't belive me try writing 'Spain' and you'll end up writing 'China'."

It completed the format, but after you reset the computer it loaded windows as normal? If so, perhaps you boot from another hdd, in which case you need to format that drive. It will be the one with a windows directory in the root.

If not, you will probably need to elaborate on the jack **** part...

            Basically...

I complete the format. I reload windows and it starts up as per usual, with no signs of a format. I do run off my c: drive, and have never had a problem before. I have been running, with no added software/hardware for around 48 hours now.

              Try:

              format c:/c

This option will have the format procedure check all clusters, and repair those that are damaged.

If all else fails, try formatting via the Windows CD during the Windows installation procedure.

"format c: /s" if you want to make that partition bootable when you're done formating it.
