  • Flying Cars: Are they feasible?

Watching Back to the Future 2 got me thinking on this unusual subject. Flying cars a cool concept, but are they really feasible? They would do a great deal to solve the problems of traffic gridlock that plague so many of us. But they would almost certainly be several orders of magnitude more dangeorus, and would require much more training than conventional cars. Perhaps some sort of automated pilot system could be implemented where the driver simply punches in some coordinates, or something of that nature and the car does most of the work. But now I am rambling. So my question for 'Poly is, will we one day be crusing around in flying cars?

Yes, it's technologically feasible, but when used en masse, you'd experience total chaos.

Yeah... think about traffic accidents NOW, imagine if it were 50 feet in the air... and then hitting other cars below those two... and then hitting the ground!

      Yikes!

Feasible? Of course! They are called airplanes.

        ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

not feasible if we stick to fossil fuels

Some morons already have enough trouble driving regular cars. I'd hate to give them ones that fly.

Yes they are feasible. But only the very rich will be able to afford them (yes I know they said that about automobiles 100 years ago )

And can you imagine the effects of drunk drivers? Lawsuits would go through the roof from people crashing into people's homes.

They're too risky really. Can you imagine the damage someone could do by flying cars into buildings or power stations?

Plus can you imagine the fuel they would use? If you think pollution and gas prices are bad now...

I wonder... When people are making cheap guesses about future inventions,
don't they realize how sparse the fuel will be?

I saw a device similar to a flying car being designed in Israel. It has a twin fans, that rotate in opposite directions, and surrounded by the hull of the car. It is supposed to be used by law inforcement around 2020.

I'll post a link if I find one.

A flying car is under development in the US. A working prototype has already been developed, now they're trying to bring the price down to about 50,000 - 100,000 dollars per unit.
