Then why don't you DO something about it instead of just complaining?

Its like the slant of each and every one of your posts, no matter the topic, is anti-right wing. And you would think with that kind of obsession you'd have some kind of an active interest in stopping. Yet, I'd be very surprised to learn if you've ever actually done anything to stop it.

And like you're not trolling either...

Question: What do natives call your country?

Sava: I call it the evil-empire!

    Now was that the question?

        That's kinda backwards isn't it?

        Wales is a nation.
Northern Ireland is part of the Irish nation.
The United Kingdom is a state (or country if you will).

The United Kingdom is composed of many nations, just as the United States is composed of many nations.

I always thought of the United States as one nation...

Jimmy: go away you silly DL... you have no idea what I do in real life away from Apolyton so stop making stupid posts over this strange stereotype you've created about me.

The province was called Dacia. The Romania thing is due to a silly nationalistic claim that Vlachs (Romanians) are the only true descendants of the Romans and that they used to run the Byzantine Empire (rather than Greeks). I've met trolls on the net claiming these things.

Thats correct, a nation generally refers to ethnicity and a state is political. A nation state is a state comprised of one ethnicity... Israel tries to pull this off.

And the US is made up of many many many nations technically speaking, while it is one state.

And again, good call on the DL thing sava. Its like calling someone a dumb-bum when they offend you.

Depends on your understanding of nation - To me the States of America are not nations. I understand a nation to be a sovereign political entity, states to be autonomous political entities (subserviant to the nation). Countries are a collection of people with similar culture, ideals, history or belief.

I suggest you ask Roland for his definitions.

I don't care about Roland's definitons . I'm using International Relations (IR) definitions.

Nation is a group of people who share similar ethnicity and culture. A state is a political boundary. Nation-state is a state that has the majority of its residence belonging to one nation.

This is why the German nation expands beyond Germany (into Poland, Czech Republic, etc.), while the German state is simply the borders.

Country is simply another word for state, but it usually not used in IR.
