What do the NATIVES call your country?

    What do the NATIVES call your country?

    I've noticed for some time that some people call their country a different name than we (Americans) do, the one that comes to mind is Germany = Deustchland (or is that just a nickname?)

    Do any other countries have interesting native-names?

            Although, the truly native name would be the word the Same people use, but I've forgotten it.

                  well the literal translation is "fatherland", a lot of countires call themselves the "motherland" as a nickname.

                    But in most sentences it is simply refered to as "haaretz" or "the land".

                      The literal translation is Germany (or land of the Germans). Deutsch = German.

                        Nationality ("Lithuanians") - singular - Lietuvis (for man) and Lietuvë (for woman); plural - Lietuviai (man) and Lietuvës (woman)

                          UberKrux, in Lithuania it's "tëvynë", so it is fatherland, not motherland as "tëvas" means "father".
