Actually only a few songs were true "lennon/mccartney". I can only think of "with a little help from your friends" and "a day in the life". While the rest of the songs were either pure Mccartney og pure Lennon. The songs i mentioned earlier was all PURE McCartney songs. Pure Lennon songs include Revolution, All you need is Love and Come togheter, and quiet a few of their first hits.
During the Beatle age, there is no doubt that Paul was greater then John, but John had one thing that Paul does not have. The ability to write great lyrics. Just think of Imagine. That song could never have been writen by Paul. Paul instead writes silly lovesongs like Yesterday and Michelle. But the melody in Imagine is nothing special, while the melody in Yesterday is phenomenal. So they have different roles the two of them. Paul is the best song composer, while John is the best lyric writer.
By the way John loved Yesterday. He even sings about it in the song "How do you sleep" (on Imagine). This is a kind of "i hate you Paul" song and he sings: "all you did was Yesterday". John always wished that he had made that song.
