If there was no American revolution, the changes in the historical timeline that this would have wrought would have eventually resulted in Belgium being sole imperator of the world.

Out of the frying pan, and into the fire I suppose.

If the British had quashed the American revolution it would have changed the way they managed their colonies, so they might not have let Canada go so easily. They might also have allowed the English speaking colonies greater access to the central government, such as giving them representation in Parliament, which would have made it politically more difficult to let them go.

            Results of a failed revolution

            1. The world would still be stuck in the tradition of Monarchies
            2. Texas would still belong to Spain, as well as Mexico and South America.
            3. The Native Americans would still be roaming around the great plains, perhaps with some modernization.
            4. The US and Canada would grow into a single colony, and be focused on the eastern seaboard.
            5. A world war betweeen France and England would have been fought eventually, perhaps a later try at revolution to follow?

I think that Democratic reforms would have come regardless... The United States would just have never come to be in the form it is today. Most likely, North America would be split into a variety of different countries. Eventually, those colonies would have gained independence. I agree with Kepler that a war over slavery would have occurred. Communism might have become more prevelant without the US around.

The UK would have got rid of the monarchy itslef by the late 19th century, due to the fact of having succesful colonies abroad who were under democratic control by their population but were still in the British Empire.

If the American Revolution had failed, the United Kingdom would have never become a colony of the USA in the 20th century, like it is in reality, today.

                      4. In all likelihood, no on would ever have heard of Washington Irving, Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville
aww... that would truly be a shame

Maybe that wouldnt have been such a bad thing after all...
