  • I Want You To Know A Friend Of Mine Named Robert

Robert and I went to high school together.
Spent a lot of time running the streets together.
I watched Super Bowls at his house.
    A really decent guy.
He and another good friend, Dennis, were at my wedding.

It's been about 5 years since I last saw Robert.
As late as last week, I was talking with my mom and my daughter about him. It was my intent to call him.
I found out today that Robert died from complications during surgery 2 days ago. His funeral is in the morning.
Robert leaves behind his wife, 3 children, a brother, and his mom and dad.

This news bothered me initially, and has deepened as the day progressed.
No, "So sorry, Sloww" is necessary as I have an amazing resiliency.
The only reason I bring this up, is to try and reinforce what you should already know, but may be prone to forgetting...

Don't put things off, because you just never know.

I'm not big on New Year's resolutions, but I'm making one this year, and I fully expect to be true to it.

This picture is of Robert. It's from the high school yearbook.
Robert, it was a hell of a party. Thanks for all.

"And if they had the words I could tell to you
to help you on the way down the road
I couldn't quote you no Dickens, Shelley or Keats
'cause it's all been said before
Make the best out of the bad just laugh it off
You didn't have to come here anyway
So remember, every picture tells a story don't it ?"

I was thinking fo doing a thread with a similar message. I told my grandfather that we should wait until he got better before I interviewed him about his life. I wanted him to have something of which to look forward. Then he died a few weeks later. All those great stories and the time getting to know him were lost. Procrastination is stealing time from yourself.

            Robert was so shy.

One time we went to a bar, and I talked to these 2 girls, got them to shoot pool.
Came about time to close, and I asked them if they wanted to go to breakfast.
Poor Robert. I thought he was going to have a stroke.
To him, asking a girl to breakfast was flat brazen.
            They went.

It's amazing. That's exactly what happened when my grandfather died. I wanted to interview him "when he gets better" and then had no opportunity anymore, losing the stories of an impressive man...
