    "PC Killer on the Loose"

"After spending quality time with the PowerBook running Mac OS X 10.2.2, we don't care if we ever touch another $3,500-plus top-end PC notebook. Yes, it is that good, and its value has nothing to do with its sleek looks.
Apple packaged the PowerBook G4s so exquisitely that at first we were afraid to get our fingerprints on them. Our reverie lasted about 15 minutes. Then we dragged two systems -- an earlier 867MHz model and the newest 1GHz unit -- through hell for several weeks, both in the lab and on the road. We beat them twice as hard because they're so pretty and because, well, we're not Mac people. When it was over, the PowerBooks owned us utterly. Trust us; that never happens."

        PowerBook == iBook now?

The PowerBooks are decent laptops, but they're hardly a "PC Killer". InfoWorld is just all gushy since Apple shipped them a free demo.

The new iBooks are crap. I used to think they were decent also, but seeing how much trouble my best friend's nearly-year-old iBook has been now I've changed my mind.

You shouldn't need to send the notebook in for quirky repairs twice in the first year you own one.

Ah, yes, that was my bad.
That said, my roomate down the way has an ibook and it hasn't failed on her at all, and the ibook mleonard owns (he won it in a contest actually) hasn't given him any problems either.

I just recently bought a laptop myself... but a bit more modest than MattHigg's...

            P4 1.7ghz
            256MB RAM
            40GB HD
            32MB Nvidia Geforce 2

perfect for moving my comp around to play Civ III anywhere.
I use it mostly in library for word processor and cd player though

I'm gonna save all my spoiling for my new desktop...
            :-p

Damn, I thought someone came over to the real dark side.

It seems Monolith and I will need to concentrate our conversion attempts on someone with a weaker will. Or a bigger brain.

I don't need to convert, dammit! I just show people the machines, and they sell themselves!

One of my former roommates is now a campus Apple representative or something. He got a free 20 gig iPod out of it, too! I told him he should ask them for a 20 gig one for windows so that he can compare them*, but he hasn't gotten back to me on that yet.
