We do have the safest roads...apparently. But I look at the general driving ability on the road and I am completely baffled as to how we have this great reputation

The Brits are very surprising... Would you expect them to have one of the best education system in the EU ?

Now there is another one I just don't believe...walk around my home city, you would be amazed how stupid people are. But my city is the worst in the country for that so it probably isn't a fair example...

Cab drivers will stop if they have a fare-paying passenger. Knocks the meter up a bit.

Driving, in London .. Its absolutly nothing like driving anywhere else in the UK.. Its not just the traffic, its the rushing for a parking space, the 1 way streets everybody gets lost on etc ... I find driving up here in Newcastle to be a much more relaxed affair.

We all have things were terrible at, and things we excell in, Im pleased Mr Chirac has noticed that, I wish other European leaders would also.

i'd certaintly wished our gov would but there's no chance it would have ANY effect to go tell the greeks they should be more like the brits when driving

only big fines can change attitudes at this point i think.

there's an example in yugoslavia about this (which apparently had as a dreadful driving code as we have)

really saying to someone you "should be like someone else" is laughable 'cause it doesnt have any effect

True enough, I think its better to simply say you think there's something to learn from the way the brits drive (eg) .. The greatest strength of the EU is that we are all so unique, not that were all the same.

maybe it was more of a "shock treatment" because of the "antagonistic" relation of uk-france

an equivalant would be to tell us that the turks drive better...

but it would still have no effect IMO

i'm all for big fines and guargantuan posters showing bloody car accident scenes

(not really but at this point some kind of "persuasion" would be good)
