no he shouldn't resign. He was elected.

But he will obviously be defeated in the next election.

I'm against forced PC. Let the voters decide. That is what democracy if for.

"no he shouldn't resign. He was elected. "

I think Caligista was talking about resigning as majority leader, not resigning as a Senator. He most certainly should not resign as Senator since MS has a democratic governor.

I certainly hope that he doesn't go all 2 year old on us if he is ousted. Any appointee by the Democratic governor will serve a solid year before a special election is called, IIRC.

If he does that will be the end of his career with the repubs. Maybe he could turn democrat now that he loves AA so much.

That ultimatum (leave leadership = leave senate) was his worst move. It destroyed any good will he might have had from many quarters, including my own 1/290,000,000th.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Well Lott has publicly said he plans to serve out his term no matter what happens, I think it has mainly been Lott allies who have been making that threat. I am thinking if Lott does want to go two year old on us we should go ahead and call him on his threat, just try to do whatever is nessecary to stop another defection a la Jeffords. Worse case scenario we have to wait for the special election that DinoDoc mentioned.

                        DD: Well, it can't hurt.

Livingston was able to project power into the leadership fray from Appropriations in the House a couple of years ago. But the dynamics of the Senate are much more individual. Each senator is a power, or at least views himself as a power answerable to nobody but his constituents.

I find it funny, that Jessie Jackson and Senator Byrd said racist remarks but never apologied for it, or even called on it.

And before you tell "But Lott has said this before" I will like to say this:

WELL THEN, WHY THE **** DIDN'T YOU CALL HIM ON IT THE FIRST TIME!!!!??????????

                              I feel better.

No matter how much he apologies for what he said, there are going to be people calling for his head, why? Because there are those who hate and loathe republicians and after the last elections, are just dieing to chew on one. As far as I'm concerned, this is totaly blown over board.

                              BTW, I'm an idependent.

                              EDIT: A few grammer corrections.
I drink to one other, and may that other be he, to drink to another, and may that other be me!

Lott will be ousted from the leadership position, but I don't see Mississippi issuing a recall vote for him, what a pity!
