French pop from the 60s/70s is beautiful - Francoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot & Serge Gainsbourg... And more recently April March, who I always assumed was 60's till I bothered to look her up on the internet.

Any reference to France in a music thread without the mention of Edith Piaf borders blasphemy.
Gainsbourg was a slimy degenerate like his daughter(hence the appeal).
Mano Negra or Negresses Vertes (?) certaintly deserve to be mentioned.
Lavoine certaintly does not except for his song Paris and Tournesols.
Alizee is worth it just for getting that sex drive just by watching her videos.
Patricia Kaas OTOH seems OK all across the board.
Daft Punk and Air for those who don't want to be fooled by Michele Gare (sp?)
And for something a bit more "rockie" maybe SAEZ
While the big ass mothership remains without contestation Noir Desir
