I already said in my first post that due to WWII, Germans were not allowed to develop such capabilities for a long time and they slept afterwards.

It is faster to deploy troops that are already forward based.
That's emphatically NOT a good thing
Lonestar,
I would wager that any war between Bermany and Britain would end in a rather quick manner.
Well, the Royal Navy would beat up on the Bundesmarine, but I seriously doubt the RAF would defeat the Luftwaffe over Germany, or that the British ground forces could invade and defeat the Bundeswehr.
The RN doesn't have enough amphibious assets to invade anyway. My guess is that Germany would keep the navy in home ports, heavily defend them with anti-aircraft defenses and fighters, and if Britain felt like attacking they'd take major losses.
Unless you want to put the entire British Army and the entire Germany Army on a field of battle somewhere, in which case the larger German Army would most likely win.
America is keeping those troops in for the secret invasion...
oops...you did not read that...

America can keep troops in Europe and defend Europe for Europe's self. This way Europe can forget about its military and build economic powerhouse. We've already lost them economically, so we'll try to station more troops there to re-turn the tables back on them. If Europe were able to achieve independence from the US, then it would make for the same situation pre-WWII: constant war with no international intervention. Not that the alternative is much better...
With Europe free from the US, I dont know wether the European Union would strengthen or collapse...I think part of its reason of existence is to counterbalance the US dominance of the world stage...but without US interference, they might be able to make a "United States of Europe" kind of thing. (Of course the US wants to interfere to prevent it from having to share "Ultra-Superpower" level with someone else.)

Uk is not perfect by any means however, the UK can projec tfar more force than Germany, we have carriers for a start. are forces are not geared up for only 1 type of warfare.
Oh yeah, try using our navy for anything other than ASW and see what happens.

we don't want you here either flash. get the hell out.
Truth is, for whatever reason, your leaders want Americans stationed in Europe. Now they may tell you that they don't but they know people like you eat anti-american stuff up.
If they didnt want The US there then we would be leaving or would have been long gone.

Perhaps we should be stationing European troops in the US. You know, for gun control...
We already have to train you people. Oh you didnt you know that Greeks soldiers were in the US learing? When I was getting my training at Ft Gordon GA, I saw plenty of Euros, Turks, Kuawaties, Saudies there getting training that apparently they couldnt get at home.

IIRC there is a German Luftwaffe training center in Texas near the Mexican border. By the way Sprayber most of the equipment that Greece and other countries has had since WWII comes from the Americans. But this serves both parties, the Americans for the business and each country because it's getting good to top quality military equipment.
So long...
PS: In the Greek military we trained with some WWII M1 and my guess is that they were American Infantry equipment that we had bought for little money or were left behind by the Allied forces after the war.

Well, I really can't speak for troops in northern Europe, but I know why we're here in Italy. We provide support - heavy logistics support to American and allied ships throughout the Med and the Gulf. We are the forward deployed combat support squadron for this part of the world.
Take this for example. I was in Souda Bay for a couple of weeks supporting the GW carrier battle group. We carried out to the boat about 200k of cargo out and about 100 k back. These are things that are needed for overseas ops.
So, I hope that explains what someof us are doing in Europe.

Today's US Military strategy is based on maintaining the ability to "go anywhere, any time and defeat any foe", and to do so before any American homes are actually threatened. Basically, the idea is to keep the enemy "bottled up" and to defeat him while still on his own home turf. The US decides where, when and how to fight. They call the shots, and when they do, they totally dominate the battlefield and the enemy evaporates. They keep their wars swift, short and as far away from home as possible.
You can't do that by keeping all your troops at home.
