... or more on point. When you are a representative of the Government of Canada, an UNELECTED representative of the Government of Canada, you do not insult foreign leaders at international pow wows.

The fact that it is even debatable whether this lacky should be given the heave-ho brings into question the mental acuity of those who see no problem rather than that of Bush.

The guy didn't call Bush a moron to his face. It was a case of loose lips, muttered stupidly in the presence of a couple if reports. Much like Reagan's famed "Evil Empire" comment.

This thread is great. The bit CA treason was amusing to no end.

          Does that really matter?

This stuff has been going on for years and no one has ever been fired. According to an article I recently read, Johnson was accused of calling Pearson an SOB. He responded by saying something like: "I would never have said that. At the time I didn't know he was one."

Nixon used to insult Trudeau, with Trudeau responding "I've been insulted a lot worse by a lot better people."

Asher's analogy is completely stupid. What would you do if one of your employees privately told another employee that a customer is an idiot. If you're smart, you just ignore it. If your employee made a direct insult to your customer, that's a different matter.

When you insult a customer in earshot of another customer (or in this case, in earshot of the press), it's the same damn thing since it's bound to be made public.

If my employee said that to someone who worked with the idiot, that employee would be fired. Period. Gone.
