commenting the work of secret services, f.e.
Oh, and you think after last events we should done nothing? We are in war over terrorism. This law is addition to codex of laws of Russian Federation and it called "the law about counter-actions vs. religious, nationalistic and other forms of extremism and terrorism" (or something like this).
I see nothing wrong that our laws are modifed for current conditions, because we faced new threats now. Why our media should used as propagandistic tribune for people who consider terrorism as right thing?

          2) Russia introduced a law which prohibits using another alphabet than cyrylica (east-Slavic one)
for writing official languages of Russian federational
states, which violates cultural separatity of them,
and makes laws of such states as Tatarstan
(which is changing its alphabet to the Latin one)
          obsolete.
The official language of Russian Federation is Russian. It is said in our constitution. And Russian language is based on Cyrilica.
It doesn't violates ANY cultural separatity of Russian states and national republics, BECAUSE alphabets of ALL OF THEM was ALWAYS based on cyrilica. If you don't know Tatarstan didn't have its own alphabet and writing when it was attached to Russia about 500 years ago. Russians created alphabet based on cyrilica for them. To your knowledge previous name of Tatarstan is Golden Horde. They are the guys who occupated Russia for 300 years and then were owerthrown, defeated and conquered. Now they made an attempt to change their alphabet (which existed for 5 centuries) on new one based on latin letters. This is the violation.
So, new law was created and accepted by absolutely majority of parlaiment members.
You think a state could be governed efficiently if people of this state wouln't have one language for communication with each other?
After all, we are RUSSIAN FEDERATION, not LATIN FEDERATION.

That sorta begs the question: "Why shouldn't it?"

I mean, after all, it was used for propaganda purposes for butchers such as Stalin, who is far worse than any terrorist I know of.

The US seems to get on OK with no official language...

We live in different country today, if you didn't noticed.
If you think that we or anyone else should give possibility to terrorists to use mass-media for aggitation of their terroristic ideas, for propaganda of terrorism, then you are terrorist yourself or need serious help

And now imagine what will happen if major of New Orlean f.e. will declare that people in his city should speak on French since this day. Or governor of Texas will declare that Spanish is official language of Texas and that all papers all documents should be writen on Spainsh. Or governor of Alaska will declare that Russian is language of Alaska now, etc.

They'd probably get generally laughed at, because in the US we have something called individual rights, at least to an extent, and in theory if the President tells you to do something you can tell him to **** off, just as you could anyone else.

The problem is, of course, that the State defines terrorism. Maybe you trust your government more than I trust mine, though.

No, I don't mean personalities of course. I mean what if they created local LAWS and in those local laws they determinated that all those languages should be used insted of English in their states.

Now this law defines terrorism. I don't see any other way to solve this, except through law.

                            They'd still be laughed at.

The problem is, though, that the definition of terrorism is based upon whatever the current government decides it should be, which is horribly arbitrary. One man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter, perhaps? Not to say anything about the Chechan debate, but surely you can agree with that statement on general principles, right?
