Not quite Just wondering. Although there are still a few things I would like to say about that election.....

Anyway, I'm not ashamed of my nationality. I'm ashamed of some things my former government did, but not of my nationality.

      Yeah,
I'm ashamed about certain politicians, societal traits, certain political opinions some of my fellow Greeks have, some culture "products", the state of some things in some cities...

      but not of my nationality.

And I'm not so much ashamed about those things as I am angry.

But I would not be ashamed whatever nationality I had.

Not being ashamed of your nationality does not mean you are not a citizen of the world (like ol' Plato used to say) or that you don't believe in the universalism of man.

It is the same as any other nationality anywhere. What matters is the indivindual; and democracy.

I make it a policy not to be ashamed about anything over which I have no control and for which no fair person would judge me.

Some would say that you are in part responsible since you can shape (to a tiny degree? granted) the things your nationality does by participating in your countries politics/decisions.

So even though initial selection is uncontrolable, you still can have some responsibility for the "reputation" of your nationality since by definition you take part in your country's koina (life)..

Nationality: Where I was born, or Nationality: Ancestral?

Born american: Ashamed at times (more often than not, lately)

By heritage: French-canadian, Irish, German, Norwegian(Canadian/Norwegian largest 'parts'): Not really ashamed, although I am mocked for the Canadian-ness occasionally.

I'm not a nationalist, so what's the point of being ashamed of my nationality?

                    Sometimes.
I'm very proud of the culture I grew in, but I can be ashamed of my nationality in some circumstances... like when we speak of the last French presidential election, where the fascist Le Pen made it to the second round, and the crook Chirac won with 82 %.

No, I'm proud to be an American, although sometimes I'm very embarrassed, like for instance whenever I hear mawkish kitch like the song "I'm Proud to Be an American."

Despite a certain bunch of political leaders being morons and claiming temporary authority to misrepresent us, we are still a great exemplar of personal freedom and community, both things worth being proud of.

No, and I don't think anyone should be.

However, I do believe that some things are greater and more important than nationality. (Hence the flag.)

Being Russian too, esp. drunk Russian as I'm right now.

This thread is silly, no one will never admit that his nationality sucks. I just can't imagine this.

Come to Eugene, OR on any weekend and you'll see 500 snot-nosed goofballs carping on how much America and Americans suck. (Of course, these are the same idiots who do a neocon 180 ten years later and then carp on how much everybody *except* America and Americans sucks).

Well, my country's flag is my avatar at this time. That should answer the question.
