  • Unpopular or Unorthodox views you hold.

Yeah, so I stole this from the SDMB. So sue me:

Let's not debate - that's what other threads are for. Just let it all hang out - those views that, for one reason or another, you just haven't been able to disclose yet for fear that all would turn against you.

    I'll start the fun...

    ***

I think Titanic deserved its best picture award.

I think Tennessee needs an income tax far more than it needs a lottery. In fact, I think the lottery is a cowardly, craven way to pay for your kids education and anybody who votes for it should be ashamed for being conned into it.

You know, Barney isn't that bad. My little girl loves him, and that's all that matters.

Knoxville, TN is a boring place to live filled with extremely stupid and slow-witted people who wear too much orange. I know this isn't an unpopular opinion here on Apolyton, but it is likely an unpopular opinion where I live.

Atlas Shrugged isn't the worst book ever written.

Too-timid and too-polite drivers are far more dangerous and obnoxious than those of us who are confident and aggressive in our driving ability.

    I love my SUV.

There hasn't been a truly decent piece of music written since Stravinsky.

    Except U2.

Microsoft has been far more beneficial to society than harmful.

This is my third thread in the past 3 or so hours.

    ***

See how easy that was? Man, do I feel better now for having got that off my chest!

Rule (that should have been posted on the SDMB thread): No posting orthodox "unorthodox" views like "I (don't) believe in God" or "I think that Hitler was a bad person."

Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I'm a student who doesn't believe that "having a good time" equates to "getting as drunk as possible, as often as possible".

        Seems pretty unorthodox to me.

Alcohol prohibition is, in principle, a good thing.

Opportunity should be treated as a resource, if positive discrimination increases the power of weak groups the to hell with liberal "equality".

I believe individualism and communitarianism are just two sides to the same coin, I support neither.

"The Last Action Hero" is an underrated film.

              Economics is a faith.

Art is entirely a visual-impact medium. All theorising beyond the mere emotional impact of the sensory expression is futile, all analysis should begin and end with the medium itself.

Musical genres are generally a good thing. One is not worth the same as another, and entire genres can be dismissed without any actual experience of all the bands in it.

Popular music is the highest form of art, because of its kinetic qualities.

Early-nineties techno-pop is a better genre than it's made out to be.

Britain has about 1/5 of the population of the united states. I don't think in any way it has even 1/5ths of the good bands in popular music history. British music in general has done more harm than good to rock and pop.

I believe that mainstream archeologists are probably wrong about when urban societies begun around the world: I think they begun a few thousand years sooner than we currently put the date at.

I think watching cartoons as an adult is fun (I also think modern cartoons geenrally suck, but I don't think thats that unorthodox)

I think a good, dramatic TV show cn get a significant audience and sruvive for a long time if just given the chance by the networks.

As for my radical politics, well, that comes out elsewhere.

I think Julia Roberts is ugly.

                  I think chocolate sucks.

I fully agree with Paul Hanson about "having a good time" not equating to "getting drunk". In fact I think drugs and alcohol are a sad refuge for the weak or simple.

Coffee is not an "acquired taste," and most other "acquired tastes" are shams. In an attempt to feel more adult, adults force themselves to eat/drink foul tasting things so they can shame the young into thinking they are immature and unrefined.

I am a Libertarian, and believe all people should be free (very sad that freedom is an unorthodox concept).

I believe in full civil rights, civil liberties, and freedom for young people.

I don't think being poor is a bad thing.

I don't think a college degree means jack.

I love capitalism and hate materialism.

                    That's not unpopular, just contradictory.

I support the legalization of most drugs, although I am not myself a drug user.

The best comedy of the 1980s was Ghostbusters, hands down.

Tchaikovsky's music is, by and large, overly sentimental crap that is structurally chaotic and full of cheap, obvious tunes.

                      William Faulkner sucks.

Hiroshima, Dresden, Tokyo, Hamburg, Nagasaki, etc. were horrific atrocities that went well beyond the need for waging war and stand as something for which the Allies should be ashamed, despite the ultimate good in the outcome of WWII.

                      3-piece suits look very sharp.

Public school education should consist more of teaching critical thinking skills rather than rote memorization of science and mathematics.

Not a single film that has won best picture since Schindler's List has deserved it. To that end, Gladiator was a TERRIBLE movie and perhaps the worst of them all, perhaps being tied with Forrest Gump.

Mozart's musical significance is very overrated.

Starbucks coffee is awful, Dunkin Donuts beats it by a landslide.

Andrea Boccelli is a 2nd-rate singer who wouldn't have close to the career he has now if he wasn't blind.

One does not need to read 'Literature' tobe well educated.

Intellectual elitism is good, as are professional politicians,

Human rights are a utalitarian good, not an absolute one.

Rigth and wrong do not equal Good and Evil.

                            Anchovies are just fine.

I didn't say he wasn't a great composer, just that is actual impact on future generations of composers was not as significant as most people seem to think.
