The net price paid by each traveler was $9, after the bellhop returned $1 to each of them. So the room cost the them a total of $27. $25 went to the manager to pay for the room, and $2 went to the bellhop.
Along the trail you come to a fork in the road. A man is standing there. The road forks to two different cities. One fork is to the city of liars, and one is to the city of truth tellers.
The people from the city of the truth tellers tell the truth, the whole truth and nothng but the truth.
The people from the city of the liars tell lies, and only lies, even half truths are not good enough, for everything they say is not to be trusted.
The man is from one of the cities, but you don't know which. You want to get to the city of the truth tellers.
What do you ask the man at the crossroads?
Point to one of the forks in the road and ask, "is that the way to your city?"
If it's the road to the truth-teller's city, both the liar and the truth-teller will answer "yes". If it's the road to the liar's city, both will answer "no". So regardless of which one you're talking to, the answer will give you the information you want.
That gets you nowhere. If you ask the man, Is that the way to your city, (and you point to the liar city, even though you dont know this)and he says yes, how do you know whether he is a truth teller or liar.
Well, the liar/honest one is an old classic. You ask him "If I asked a member of the city you don't live in if that was the road to the city of truth tellers, what would he say?" and then do the opposite.
A pumpkin, an eggplant, and a tomato are on a truck, what will fall on a sharp curve?

Neither the truthful, nor the liar can answer yes in that situation, it would be against the rules. The truthful would be lying by saying he was from the liar city, he has to say no. The liar would be telling the truth if he said he was from the liar city, and so he has to say no.
AnnC had it right.
Isn't there usually a third party which can be either telling the truth or lying? In that case a more convoluted question like Wraith's is needed.
The banana is supposedly 8 inches long. Don't ask me how to work it out though...
