  • Greatest Composer of all time?

I don't mean to seem like a Boris-fanboy, but Brahms really is the best.

You can't argue with good stuff like

    Hungarian Dance 1
    Hungarian Dance 5
    Lullaby
    Academic Festival Overture
    Waltz in A-Flat
    Symphony I

    Sibelius!
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency

      Wagner!
"Paul Hanson, you should give Gibraltar back to the Spanish" - Paiktis, dramatically over-estimating my influence in diplomatic circles.

Eyewerks - you know you want to visit. No really, you do. Go on, click me.

No, monky. Brahms is my favorite, but Bach is the indisputable God of Western Music. All bow before his might.

And Sibelius is damn cool, yes.

Sorry I left Sibelius off, I was a bit pressed with only 24 choices.

Sorry Boris, I have always been a bit more partial to his first symphony. It did take him 21 years to finish it after all.

Oh, and not to nitpick, but here's changes I would make on the list:

Drop Grieg, Saint-Saens and Rimsky-Korsakov and replace them with Mussorgsky, Monteverdi and Bizet.

Symphony No. 4 is the epitome of his symphonic works, and the last of the truly great classical symphonies ever written. Unquestionably his greatest symphonic piece (not counting Ein Deutsches Requiem, ANOTHER glaring omission!)

Not knowing Saint-Saens is understandable, he was second-rate.

Not knowing Rimsky-Korsakov is a little harder to fathom. Scheharazade and The Flight of the Bumblebee are pretty well-known.

Argh, you're always so intimidating to talk classical with Boris. You are just too much for us amatuer classical conniseurs.

BTW, I'll still take Grieg over Mussorgsky any day.

Ack, I can't believe i left Tchaikovsky off. That *IS* a horrible ommission. I had every intention of putting him on there, but it just slipped my mind.
A pity we can't edit polls.
